**Official** Pakistan and England in the UAE 2015/16

I can see Pakistan adding another 100 runs AND I can see such a lead (300) not being enough. In other words, this pitch isn't exactly becoming a minefield. Very good test imho!
If Pak can manage a lead of 300 then it might be difficult to chase it down in one day even if Pak don't get wickets (Since the pitch doesn't seem like a minefield)

I always think "highest successful chases" is a stupid stat. England have never chased over 209 in Asia, but they scored 312 in a 4th innings in the same country, against the same bowling attack, with the same batting lineup, little over a week ago. Surely that's more/just as relevant?
Yup. I mention this every time a commentator produces that particular stat.

Good point.
Thanks for correcting my horrible way to express that a draw is still on the cards.

Chases take on a life of their own. Just because you might make 300 chasing 450, doesn't mean you won't collapse in a heap short of 250 on the same pitch against the same attack.

But as you say if the pitch doesn't get much worse then England are definitely in with a chance with 300.

Especially if Root can get going, that man can score thick and fast

Succesful chases are only relevant as a ratio compared to unsuccesful (as in no draws) ones. A statistic that's somehow never used.

Pitch is already taking notable turn, though. England's spinners just aren't good enough to exploit it (and these two are batting well)

interesting, since i am not watching it so its hard to tell. Not much mention of it on CI so was assuming its still a good pitch to bat on without any problems

It's a good pitch to bat on in the context of accomplished players of spin against mediocre spinners, yes.

Of course. But equally chasing 250 isn't some impossible task you'd only have a hope of doing once in a blue moon, which is kind of what is implied when those stats come up. It's just about getting a balance of perspectives, which most people with a good understanding do.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Pakistan should forfeit for twice getting beaten on the outside edge and bowled by Samit Patel.

So with 3 wickets remaining Pakistan have a lead of 240 so far. Looking difficult to get a lead of 300 now

I mean it must be frustrating; there's clearly assistance there on offer but that doesn't do you much good when you bowl two rank full tosses in an over.
