Yep as I feared with my previous comment after SA just enforced the follow on, Pakistan have batted way better in the second dig so far ..
I'm loving this. It's easy to play Test cricket when everything is in your favour. But having Mulder, Jansen and Maphaka having to learn patience and how to bowl opposition out on flat decks when going gets tough... That is priceless. And this is as close to a dead rubber as you can get.

You also dont want to do a Joe Root and "kill" your bowlers though

Agree 100% , it's incredibly stupid to deliberately increase your bowlers workload in a match you are dominating as it risks injury.

Sa could have had a bat again for about 50/60 overs , anyone who missed out in the first innings would have had an opportunity to get a score/confidence as SA don't play Tests for a while, then SA still would have had 150+ overs to dismiss Pakistan again , only difference is bowlers would have had a nice rest by the time Pakistan bat again in their second innings.

Looking after your fast bowlers wherever possible is the key to success in Test cricket. The only good time to enforce a follow on is when time is a problem or bad weather is around like you said, none of that is an issue
Yeah pretty much the only time where I think enforcing the follow on with this much time in the game might be a good idea is when you have a freak burst of extremely bowler-friendly conditions that probably won't last more than a session or two, e.g. session under lights in a day/night Test. Otherwise just forget it.
