I don't get how they approach it, surely he won't bat at 3 in the next Test? (WTC Final). So does he get the second innings and then they push him back down? It's such a low upside move

It's stop gap till De Zorzi recovers and is back. Rickleton then bats at 3.

I don't think we have these class players that are absolute bankers. We've been chasing it for some time & until the performances show they are then we have to go with what combinations suit which conditions and which opponents.

These were Bavuma's comments. I kind of understand not needing Pato when you have Mulder like bowling.

Forgive me if I'm wrong as I don't know if still in place.

But with De Zorzi out is the selection of Maphaka not quota related?

Guys a talent so excited he's got a chance in test cricket if that isn't the case.

I think Bedders is massively lucky to stay in the side when Bosch did so well in the last game with bat as well as ball.

Albeit the balance of the side would be completely skewed and too many bowlers.

Its an average over the season.
Highly doudt it played much of a role. Think Mulder getting injured delayed his debut. With Mulder back in they were very likely to play him at some stage.
