What's the verdict on Corbin Bosch? Nepo selection or actual vibes?

His numbers look to have improved a bit since last I looked.

Just think we well down the list of quicks and tbf has been on the upward curve of late. Blitzed England Lions the other day too. He is quick but it seems such a drag for him to get to the wicket and then hits you quicker than you think.

Honestly thought it would be his younger bro who would get capped by the Proteas.

I'm not too convinced about Bosch's selection. He may have been in good form of late, but he is 30 and not really a long-term prospect. I'd have much rather seen Beyers Swanepoel or Lutho Sipamla there.

Then again, I was wrong about Dane Paterson, so I'm willing to give Shukri Conrad the benefit of the doubt.

It's not that easy to get into the South African bowling attack. We keep producing so many good fast bowlers that there isn't room for everyone and some bowlers will have the good fortune of there being an opening at the right time for them, while others (like Baartman) end up having to wait a bit longer for their opportunity.
Yeah but we've had some average ones in the late 2010's guys like Stuurman , Hendricks , Dala, Magala etc all got capped in atleast one format ..Baartman can count himself unlucky not to be capped during that period

Very exciting player , I've been advocating for his selection on this forum for a long time ..

He has the attributes necessary for international cricket , pace , explosive batting , can bowl all day and a very good fielder ..

Stats don't always tell the whole story , look at Brydon Carse of England ..Think his bowling average was 36 before Test debut

I think with Paterson in the squad they wanted another enforcer type to replace Coetzee.

Maphaka a nice Burger replacement as a different type of left-armer to Marco too.

True, but you never quite know how a guy's going to turn out until he gets on the field. I agree that Baartman has been a bit unlucky, but none of the others were outrageous selections.

Could Bosch be there as a backup to Mulder? He's been batting at 8 in the recent domestic first-class matches, but he's definitely a better bat than any of the other bowlers and we are short on all-round options.

There is very few outrageous selections in the bowlers and many a fast bowler in SA can be considered unlucky.

But SA has had some real quality over the years with some real x-factor that becomes the selection criteria. It's only when you have lots of injuries that some of these fringe players get selected, and mostly it becomes about preference rather than outright bad selection.

Philander was probably the biggest selection failure when he should have been selected at least 2 years earlier than he was.

de Swardt would be considered very unlucky in that case. And Beyers. Bosch is a really good bowler but not sure he is a genuine all-round at international level.

Yeah, agree with that. De Swardt is the most like-for-like for Mulder. Swanepoel a better bowler than both and has more x-factor but less reliability with that bat.

What I like about Swanepoel is he can swing the ball and there seems more seam bowlers around these days.

Corbin defo like-for-like with Coetzee/Nortje. First change enforcer. Can push batsman back. His batting is a nice bonus.

He has pace. Unless your name is Dane Shukri prefers pace. Both Corbin & Kwena probably leapfrogged a few because of it.

What I do like about the selections so far is that there seems like reason to it. Pato has no pace but is so skilled and disciplined and being rewarded for it with his selection. So it gives guys like Sipamla and Swanepoel + others of similar ilk ie E Bosch , C Yusuf hope.

But also we have 18 year-old quick picked deservedly for his talents but then rewarding guys like Pato & Corbin at the other end of the scale.

Cricinfo did such a bad covering of the England Lions game they never bothered to correct the error in their scorecard, Bosch's performances were incorrectly credited to Boast ..Who knows what other mistakes they are making seeing that they barely cover domestic games live.

Yeah, it was really poor. Also worth noting that the Lions batting line up was more of an U19's team than a real Lions one. Not sure I'd be looking too deeply into performances against them.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic.

I brought attention to some of their errors recently on twitter and they changed them because someone was critical of Firdose Moonda.
