*Official* NZ Domestic Season

What's your opinion of Ewen Thompson? He seems to be an opening bowler, and he's got a century at number 8 at a strike rate of over 90 and took 4 wickets for 107. Joseph Yovich was discussed a few times by fans, and I have read a lot about Jesse Ryder- both bat in the middle order and bowl a lot of overs for their teams. With Styris and Oram injured, they could consider these as replacements, but you might know better- at least FC matches get media coverage in NZ.

Bond's return was a disappointment, both for him and his team. What happened to Sherlock and Davis and those other new pace finds?

Exactly Anzac.

Marc, Thompson has hit 2 better than a run a ball centuries in the past month. Very impressive effort by him.

Yes, but if he's a bowler, surely his selection is based on what he does with the ball rather than the bat?

I assume you're familiar with some of Arjun's theories?

When you look at the Otago top 7, it really lacks alot of experience and good batsmen.

Gaffney, Redmond, Todd and Hopkins. Are good batsmen. Sean Eathorne is very inexcperienced, but is a talented batsman on the rise and will get better with experience. Marcel mcKenzie and Jordan Sheed are two of the worest top order batsmen in the country, One of them should drop when Cumming doesn't play in the tests. But the other spot is a worry, we could play four seemers so neither Sheed or McKenzie have to play. That would be my choice, as most of our lower oder are competent batsmen.

My otago team for the next game

Redmond
Gaffney
Wasim
Toddy
Hopkins
Eathorne
mcCullum
McSkimming
Wilson
Scott
McMillan

It lacks abit in the top six, but the added penetration in the bowling is certainly alot better than two **** batsmen. I would be inclined to give Wasim another go at three, as he is a better batsmen than Sheed and if he hits form it would be better than if Sheed scratches around and gets 12.

the problems with the Otago lineup seem to mirror those of most of the other smaller States - a few specialists and a majority of 'bits & pieces players'....................ND has been plagued with this situation when without their internationals...............

it's probably a gross generalisation and overstatement, but IMO the NZL preoccupation with these 'bits & pieces players' can be attributed to....

*substandard pitches and dual purpose grounds..............

the former offers too much assistance to the new ball & makes it difficult for any top order to be effective, while the shorter boundaries on dual purpose grounds gives the 'hitters' an opportunity to shine with the bat once the seam movement decreases.............

how many genuine 1st class cricket grounds do we have - The Basin, Hamilton & ????? - now that Hamilton has lost intnl honors for 3 seasons we are pretty stuffed..............

IMO The Basin should be the Holy Grail of NZL pitches & should provide the best playing surface ..............

great to see james mcmillan coming back, interesting that otago look to have a rather settled and consistent bowling attack this season,

JM McMillan 12 wickets@23.58
WC McSkimming 15 wickets@24.33
JW Wilson 10 wickets@24.50
BE Scott 15 wickets@24.53

Muhommad Wasim has been included in Otagos team to play Canterbury

Glenn Turner
"We were looking for an opener to replace Craig Cumming anyway, and feel that Wasim is better equipped. Also, even though he has been struggling, he does have a better record in the past."
Also james McMillan popped a shoulder at practise, he was sure to of played if he was fit. DAMMMMMM IT.

Wasim made 25 or something, did not expect that considering his recent run of poor form.
