if something happens to Lockyer i think Hornby and Thurston will still be the half/5-8 pairing...
Most likey, but Stuart is pretty big fan of Lyon. They really needed to pick another halfback in the squad, instead of probably Jarrad Hayne.

yeh too many outside backs, i would have left out Hayne and Tate and replaced them with Price and Gower

I heard on the radio that Lyon was picked as a back up 5/8 to Lockyer, bu Stuart. LOL got to hope that Lockyer doesn't get injuried cus i've been watching quite a bit of Lyon for St Helens since he signed for Manly. And well his no better at 5/8 then Gasiner or Inglis really, as a playmaker. It works for St Helens cus he get more ball, but their No. 7 runs guides them around the park.
And how would you know that? He rarely comes inside looking for more ball and, IIRC, he's only played at 5/8 once for St Helens. At the beginning of last season, when Long was injured and not there to guide us around the park. He, along with Cunningham, controlled us that day. Especially with his kicking - which was spot on.

Find it interesting that he didn't get a look in when he was the best player in the Super League by acres, yet when he's still playing well but isn't even St Helens' standout player he gets selected. According to some Saints fans Mal Meninga had a big say in it.

Tupou and Hayne's selections intrigue me, also.

Guess 'cos he's now committed to the NRL again?

I think you will find that Bob Fulton had a bigger say in his selection. If he wasn't going to play for Manly next season, its clear he would have never been selected.

Titans squad thus far

Not that many star names in there. Sure the majority are regular/fringe first-graders, but I don't really see why people think they're pushing the cap to the extent that they might even go over.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Preston Campbell, Scott Prince, Frank Puletua and Brian Carney are all pretty big names. Should be a decent side in a couple of years time once some homegrown talent comes through, I expect them to finish mid-table next year, along with Souths who I think will do well.

Craig

World Traveller
Jake Webster should go great next season at least he will be certain to start then he was at Melbourne, which showed their depth.

Titans arent anywhere near as good as people are making them out to be, Prince, Webster and Bailey quality players, Carney and Mathers very good, outside of that they have signed a whole bunch of fringe first graders most who weren't good enough to play for their club this season...

edit: Campbell isnt the player he was...

Simon, stop agreeing with me. It makes me think there's something wrong with me.

I think we should let Jamie Lyon play for the pommies, we dont need him and it will do him good to play against better players than him before he comes back to the NRL. I should imagine he wont be upto the level of fitness expected to fill an Australian test spot.

what a load of dribble!! Jamie lyons??? is this a part of the salary for coming home?? last i remember this is the kid who didnt want to honour a contract that HE signed. What a reward for him, come home mate we’ll give ya a test if you do?? Great message from the head office tossers again. What is wrong with the players that stayed here, slugged out the year here, then see the jersy go overseas?? take a bow fools!! For those of you who are stuck on the phil gould rant,” we have no 5/8ths “, get real!! Do you all recall the teams playing without one?

Posted by chook of Gympie on Tue 03 Oct 06 at 12:08am:

The squad is fine but if I was a selector I would have had Shane Webke at half back. Having not played in that position for some time his variety of plays would be unknown to the opposition sides. His recent form demands his inclusion and he is the biggest and toughest half back available.

Posted by BA of Caringbah on Tue 03 Oct 06 at 01:45pm:

Wow Lyon plays in the team which is a million times better than any other team, and gets to run rings around clowns. How can they compare that to what the NRL players do??

Posted by Daniel of Brisbane on Mon 02 Oct 06 at 03:58pm:

Another side loaded with Broncos who shouldn’t be there. Pertro, Carrol and Tate shouldn’t have been picked. How about Roy Asotasi???

   Love the Asotasi one.
