Cricket doesn't help it's self.
It wasn't Lillee or Larwood bowling out there.
Umpires need a better feel for the game.
nothing wrong with the umpiring, that's just the laws of the game. The players were more than happy to walk off, seemed like neither side were confident they'd win and Test cricket isn't designed to produce a winner all the time.

In all seriousness, cricket does need to find a solution to badlight scenarios, because it's unfair for both teams , NZ can't bowl their seamers in these conditions set by the umpire , and if Pakistan get close to a win all NZ need to do is say we'd like to bowl pace now and the match ends in a draw ...Bit of a farce if you ask me.
NZ went 30 minutes over time and still fell 3 overs short of the minimum required overs. If anything we should be penalised

Yeah but if they played out three overs fans wouldnt have a sense that there was a result out there that was stolen from one of the teams. Three overs is like 10 minutes of play to close out a series.

Naseem was gonna take us home in the next over and he got robbed.
ngl had a feeling he was gonna have a crack next over and see what southee did for the finale. no risk at all with the field around the bat if you connect.

i was thinking token cover sweeper to make naseem look square.

we'll never know because the rules are stuck in 1907 lol.

meanwhile in my own personal "karachi 2022-23" i just had to mow down 512 steps in 4 minutes to not lose my step goal streak which dates back from june of last year so many big wins

huge props to all involved, sarfaraz, shakeel, abrar, naseem, southee, macewell... could go on. cricket really does benefit from such awesome matches

Would mostly just be an opportunity for a Pakistan batsman to get out in poor light, which would make the result dodgy. Bad light is bad light. Play faster if you wanna get done in the sun.

@cnerd123's right about it being the right call to bring them off though - rule says you come off when it's bad light, you subjugate the force majeure stoppages of rain or light to the whims of the teams and you open up a pandora's box

Yeah I don’t understand the idea that cricket would be more ‘modern’ if it made batsmen try to save a game when they can’t see the ball properly (because it’s after the designated playing hours due to the actions of the fielding team)

hm nah one of the most underrated fun things about rugby union is both teams can keep going if they want, most famously in the 90 minute bledisloe draw where both sides at turnovers just hucked it rather than kicked it out like cowards.

allowing organic play in the players hands makes for a more authentic sport imo. i wouldn't mind an ashes duel continuing into the dark if both sides were up for it.
