Kane and Tim S would be better options at slip to the spinners, instead they’ve got Mitchell standing there. He dropped the test.

Pakistan’s top 3 need a good long look at themselves, though it was smart thinking from Southee to get the spinners on while the ball was new.

Actually thought NZ bowled rather well (Southee in particular), but this particular attack has too many limitations with Wagner ageing, Macewell being hittable when batsmen make up their minds to go after him, and Sodhi being Sodhi.

It's like they collectively forgot that playing off the back foot is an option.

We were always going to struggle to take 20 wickets, but who knows how differently things could have panned had Mitchell caught Babar at that time.

Anyone else get the feeling Abrar is going to have a field day with the ball? NZ don't tend to like mystery bowlers.

I watched all but 4 or 5 overs last night, obviously a tough watch but pretty much went as expected. The two things I was concerned about going into this series, Sodhi and a lack of pace really shone through

Sodhi deadset looked like a part time leggie. Forget his accuracy issues, he’s just putting nothing on the ball. He’s not even close to test standard IMO, shouldn’t be near this team. Wagner is a waste of a spot in this XI too, don’t think he hit 130 all day. I see Ferguson played last night for Auckland, why is he not over here? Have the mentioned why he wasn’t up for selection?

Sodhi was rubbish, didn't look first-class standard from the 5 or so overs I saw. Tbh, I think it was a mistake not bringing Ferguson along. Wagner's washed and needs replacing and there's enough resources there to manage someone for shortish spells. It's also not super hot over there. I think it was 21 degrees when I checked first session.

Yep, we're going to struggle with Abrar. This pitch has plenty in it for him, if we don't pick him well he's going to dominate.

And again, we have a Test side whose selection is far from ideal. Sodhi is exactly what we expected. Wagner is a shell of his former glories. Even Bracewell, bowled far from what you require from a Test spinner in terms of testing them consistently with turn, bounce, changes in pace etc. At least they got it right with getting Young away from the opening spot and giving it back to Conway, but they've got blood on their hands in terms of dropping a guy with Young's level of talent - it was them who mismanaged him by making him open.

Nowhere near the best Test side available to us is out there. It's annoying.

Very good recovery but the top 3 dismissals are still pissing me off. Lol if this leads to Rizwans career being derailed.
Stupid short term thinking in dropping Rizwan. The new regime trying to flex it's muscles in a stupid way.

I am not saying anyone is undroppable but a couple of middling series is not enough to drop someone like Rizwan.

Comment on Stuff:

‘Riddle me this, how does Ollie Pope turn 26 into 145 at trent bridge, Joe Root turn 47 into 176 at trent bridge, Bairstow turn 34 into 162 in Headingly and Babar Azam turn 12 into 161 not out and counting at Karachi. I'll give you a hint: when they did so they were all punishing the same juggler for letting them down on the grass.’
