I actually dont reckon i could care less about a T20 but a good oneday effort by the blackcaps.

Consider this one day side:

McCullum
Ryder
Guptill
Taylor
Elliott
Styris
Vettori
Oram/Franklin
Mills
Bond
Southee

That is a quality 50 over side. The team doesnt have any average journeymen (Redmond, Hopkins, Gillespie, Broom, Cumming ect)but insteas 11 quality cricketers. This side could go places.

Anyway, its about time to start focusing on the highly interesting test series in which both sides have alot to prove and much respect to be gained. For the blackcaps, this is the side I hope (realistically) they will carry into the first test

McIntosh (his last test series)
Guptill
Flynn ( please start scoring some runs)
Taylor
Ryder ( please be fit)
Elliott (deserves a shot due to ODI form)
Vettori
McCullum
Southee (O Brien unlucky)
Bond
Martin

Pretty harsh to call Broom a journeymen imo. I still think he has a international future ahead of him, the selectors just have to stop ****ing him around.

Looking at the test squad you named, I can't see O'Brien being dropped for Southee (although I would love to see Southee play in the first test).

I would love to see this side play today:

Imran
Farhat
Umar
Afridi
Kamran
Abdul Razzaq
Fawad
Aamir
Tanveer
Naveed
Ajmal

Agree on Broom. He's been meh, but he averages 30 in List A with no centuries. Its not as though the selectors shouldnt have seen it coming.

Broom is a better test option if they want to pick him for something.

I can see O'Brien being dropped tbh. Not out of any fault of his own, but nostalgia over Tuffey and excitement over a young guy like Southee could play a part in the decision.

Will be interesting to see if Southee has done anything to remedy his second spell struggles.

There's no way they should be thinking about dropping Martin or O'Brien IMO. They've held the attack together for the last year, O'Brien has been our best bowler and every time we drop Martin it only proves to ourselves that we still need him.

For the other spot, if Bond is considered fit, then he plays. If not it's a battle between Tuffey and Southee. IMO Tuffey is still the better bowler so they should pick him. I don't buy picking Southee right now in tests as an investment in his development when a better bowler (Tuffey) is around. He'll almost certainly be in the team in 6 months anyway on the back of injuries/ retirements (and hopefully continuing good form as well) and his development is not going to be impaired by being kept out of the team for 6 more months.

Disagree that the selectors have treated Broom poorly. If anything they've now given him too many chances to fail (due to all the other injuries around) which has probably damaged his confidence.

Batting at 6 or 7 is probably not ideal for him in the ODIs, but there comes a point where you have to say 'tough luck'. His preferred spots at 4 or 5 are well and truly taken and he's had chances coming in to bat in all sorts of scenarios, yet has failed repeatedly. Passed the point of 'go back to domestic cricket and score some runs' for me back during the Champions Trophy. Hopefully he will do that now.

What are people's thoughts on Bond's come back so far?

He certainly hasn't been able to find his yorker yet and isn't getting the swing he use to have.

Still not bad for a guy who has been out for so long.

anyone else disgusted by the amount of commercialism iin the after match ceremony, all those stupid prizes and all the people standing around who probably know nothing about cricket, just abit too much imo

A very good batting display by McCullum and Styris that partnership was well constructed. Good tense finish to the game.......Ajmal again came up with a beauty of an over......

Don't know why Razzaq didn't bowl.....Malik was used instead. Our captain was having an Afridi moment i guess.
