wtf was the BGT squad announced even before this series was over? There was no rush whatsoever!! Was it done to protect these liabilities?

It seemed very deliberate from BCCI.
It was announced in the middle of the test! Right after day 2 of the last test when India was trailing by 300 runs with 5 wickets still to get... and on the day when India had collapsed to 156 all out.

Just finished watching the delayed broadcast. What the actual **** was that last 15 minutes?

Henry and Ajaz aside, NZ were bowling complete dross, and even Ajaz wasn't bowling great. Hard to believe that India would hand back the advantage in so frantic a manner.

I think India will probably win this game. NZ's bowling just doesn't look like they have the control to fully take advantage of the conditions. But at the same time I could easily see India unraveling for 150 tomorrow morning if Ajaz and Henry can strike early. They just look totally punch drunk.

Nah this is the type of position from which the bowling coach can come up with a very concise plan with Latham et al to execute. We're in an excellent position here.

On this pitch Ajaz just needs someone at the other end with some semblance of pressure. Whether that turns out to be my pick (Rachin) or perhaps Henry in short spells they can figure that out.

Should be Ajaz from one end most of the session and rotating Henry, Rachin, Phillips, O'Rourke and Sodhi from the other end.

Hell, O'Rourke could be horrible to bat against on this pitch if a bit of variable bounce occurs.

Sodhi's bowling will determine this test for NZ.
There is alot in the pitch so he should be effective. If he gets hammered around or bowls half trackers then its India's game.

Pretty good looking scorecard to wake up to but obviously not quite good as it looks - 1 nightwatchman, 1 runout and we were taking a fair bit of tap. Ajaz bowling some rippers but struggling to keep the pressure on. If we're going to win this one we need him plugging up one end.

Sodhi is a very odd one on this pitch - I do remember seeing some footage of him darting it in at pace on some classic seddon park turners in FC but the guy doesn't get a whole lot of practice for this kind of situation, it's a tall order.

I think the heat is just frying guys tbh. Yes it looks "normal" on paper, but both sides are visibly battling physically and/or mentally. That's a classic "been outside in the sun all day" mental holiday from India.

Has an elite level batsman ever been as prone to getting their brains fried when there is pressure mounted? I honestly think Kohli is in a class of his own here. The guy's brain just stops working in these situations.

You are approaching a stage where you start to genuinely feel sorry for Kohli. Didn't think it was possible around 2017 when he was acting like a complete tool

If anything, could have done with a few more overs of pace.
I don't understand why O'Rourke is in this team. He bowled a grand total of four overs in the last test and he was only given two overs with the new ball here. If Latham isn't going to bowl him then why is he in the team?

Was fun watching back through the highlights. Very impressive from Young and Mitchell. For a while I would've dismissed the idea of Young owning the 3 position permanently post-Williamson as he failed so comprehensively as an opener, but he's looked the part here. It's not like he hasn't had to deal with new-ball seam movement this series either.

Amazing close to the day from India - comedy gold. Jaiswal looks fundamentally great for a 22 yr old but, while not as all-out-attack as Pant and Sarfaraz, he's played some terrible attacking shots to throw away starts this series - 13, 35, 30, 77, 30. Siraj reviewing that ball gets the  . I do almost feel sorry for Kohli. Great pick up and throw from Henry, though admittedly the shot was pretty nicely weighted to his dominant hand without too much angle, like a practise drill.

Well set up for day 2, we haven't scored a heap of runs so only takes one decent partnership for India to be close. Ajaz the most important bowler as others have said, if he doesn't bowl well I can see India's attacking players getting on top of the whole attack.
