*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

Look I know Danny Veets had a very long career, and did some fantastic minnow feasting, but did he ever have a better bowling performance than this?
Just checked - he took 12 against Aussie at Eden Park in a test we lost, and 12 against the Bangers in 2004.

Great bowling. One of the most pathetic losses I've seen. Well deserved for this team, been hanging on first dear life giving a long rope to mediocre batsmen for years banking on the same 2-3 guys in the lower order to bail them out every time.
Agreed, a very proud home record on the line here but it’s bringing home issues that were apparent as long back as 2022-23 against Bangladesh. Jaiswal is a pointer to how there are ready replacements if India want to use them.

Ashwin-Jadeja not bailing them out (I hope!) with the bat is another big one.

I know not everyone agrees with me but the decline and now absence of Pujara has made this lineup far far more brittle IMO and it's bizarre that they don't seem to even acknowledge that it's a problem

This is awesome.

I feel like a few years ago this forum talked about NZ winning a test series in India vs one in SA vs one in Australia.

The consensus was that we would find it hardest to win in India.

How good?
To be fair you lot seemed absolutely, sincerely cursed when you play us. The vast, vast gulf in results and performances relative to expectation against us sincerely cannot be explained for any other reason that some bizarre mental block as soon as you play Australia.

NZ really played out of their minds this series, props to them man. IND's been sluggish and unlucky, seems like the transition is approaching quicker than the team management expected.

That all changes once we break our ‘India in India’ hoodoo. Now anything is possible.

Pujara’s lean patch did get too thin but yes that type of player is gold when batting conditions aren’t great. Was thinking of him during Latham’s knock yesterday.

The fact that he was considered dispensable at times during the Kohli era makes it less surprising they don’t acknowledge it, but would be cool if they at least looked to fill that sort of template.

It's purely styles make fights. Our bowlers suck on hard fast true pitches, and our batsmen suck against genuine pace and bounce.

We are however above average against pretty much everything else - swing, seam, spin, low slow etc etc.

Auckland 2000 vs AUS where he took 12 was genuinely good though it was every bit a turner as this. The batting let NZ down in that game (and series).

I think of Vettori in a similar way as Mike Atherton and his back issues, once the injuries took over and forced him to remodel his action he wasn’t that much of a wicket taking threat, but did pretty okay considering and as captain did drag NZ through a miserable period.

Doesn't explain why you keep wilting against Australia at home tbf. Something mental there at this point.

I think people acknowledge he was a huge loss but he'd declined so much he really wasn't worth a spot in the side at all.
