It's a relatively minor thing but I just don't know how you perfectly middle that swept six two overs ago like Rachin did. Wasn't full, it was a good length by the time he hit it. Rachin took a long backswing, the full arc, the ball did spin a bit, and bounce, and you're hitting cross-bat. And he middled it for six and has done that kind of thing repeatedly. I have decent hand-eye coordination but would be nowhere near that.

Obviously other top batters amaze me too, but that shot stood out to me.

This is the first 300 run lead for a touring side in India since SA in Nagpur, 2010, which was 325. Overall record is a 490 run lead by the West Indies in 1958.

Kolkata 2001, which is the biggest lead India have overturned for a win, was 274. Biggest lead ever overturned for a win is Australia in Colombo in 1992 (292 runs), not counting Ovalgate.

Whatever it takes!!!
Its like the WC finals after over 10 all over again.

There are some great stuff about Rohit's leadership but how soon we lose our heads when up against it is not one of them.

It was actually telling how well we seemed to fight every time we were down under Virat too. Mostly due to our own stupid selections and decisions but never seen our sides be listless like we seem to be here.

Credit where credits due this is CRUCIAL from southee he applied himself and is now enjoying the rewards. Would be nice for him to retire soon going out on a sweet note such as test wins over india in india. This partnership was genuinely fun to watch. Haven't felt this excited watching our boys play a passage of test cricket like this in a longgggg time.

Well what more can we say about rachin huh? World at his feet. Loves batting against India and especially in India.

Stay home Kane. We'll see you when south africa C arrive. Keep that avg padded up son.

Was really looking forward to watching phillips unleash and he was looking ready to do so. Maybe another day. Was well set up for him to be who he is.

There're been a few posts about Southee already, but you can see in this innings why he's caused us such acute angina over the years. The guy can bat. Should have a low 20's average at least given his ability.
Yes exactly. Also his attitude seemed to have filtered through to the likes of Boult, Jamieson etc all of whom have batting ability.

His best innings by far since the WTC final (that was priceless, credit where due). There was also the 73 in the follow on victory test against England, didn’t watch that innings.

Wasn't nearly as good an innings as this. That was just Southee chancing his arm and getting lucky. This has actually largely resembled the ideal spirit-breaking #8 innings.

Thats far too harsh if you’ve followed his career, but he definitely needs a good tour.
Disagree respectfully. Hasn't done anything since feb or march of 2023 iirc. That's more than 18 months of no performance. At this level its too much. Also its the very very basic catching/keeping errors. Its just scary to see those fumbles come into his game.
