*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, saw this coming yesterday and I guess I already shared what I felt.

Incredible by NZ. They continue to be our achilles heel in cricket by some or the other way and probably the worst match up for a lot of our players. Santner, as RTB pointed out in the earlier image, is someone who thought you just had to show up to get wickets in India. Good on him to have gone back, worked so much and created so many options that add doubts to batsmen to spin them to a test win here. I honestly do think they got a lot of breaks in Bengaluru but here, this is a honest to God paddlin and they were the better team by quite a distance. And the main men were Santner, Conway, Ravindra and Latham. Philipps and others chipped in where needed as well which obviously helped.

I had already shared what my feelings about this Indian team and their performance. It almost feels cruel to knock a side down for what is the first series loss in 12 years and we didn't even as much as draw a series in the period in between. It has been amazing home dominance likes of which have never seen before and probably will never be seen in the future either. This team still remains among the top test teams. A lot of the players seem to have lost form at the same time and given the age of some of them, there are definitely question marks on whether this is terminal. But those are discussions for another time. This side is gonna continue for this cycle of the WTC and I hope they find it within them and actually bat well and make runs and see if they can win the next test and then do well enough in Australia to make it to the WTC final.

It does show this team has not been good when put under pressure. They do pack their all in their counter punch but once that is neutered, they seem to have little else to give. That has to change for this side to be as good as the ones we have had before. Personnel changes are very hard to see given the worst batsmen in the side seem to be Rohit and Virat. I would definitely think Pant was very disappointing in this test. I dunno if he is still feeling the effects of that knee injury and if he is, he should perhaps rest for the Mumbai game. Jaiswal is good but we need him to carry on to bigger innings. As other Indian posters have pointed out, the lower order and bowlers have been bailing us out for a while now at home, since the pandemic, and there was the chance that the home dominance would fall apart the moment that stopped and that moment has come now, thanks to the Black Caps.

On the flip side, maybe we are doing you long term damage by letting Stead stay on. :)

Well done NZ

Brilliant result.

India in Australia with a lot of old players could go dramatically wrong very quickly. Seen it often with England how an older team can fall apart in no time.
This feels a lot like it did in 2011-12, yes. A horrible mixture of over the hill greats and talented but extremely inexperienced youngsters on their first tour of Australia.

Replace Blundell with Williamson and name Conway as keeper. Conway feigns a minor injury early on and you can play whichever keeper is NZ's best and a specialist batsman at the same time.
Can Conway bat if this happens though

Absolutely brilliant win. The last three years since the world test championship win have been tough, mainly because we knew we had talented players, but they have been allowed to accept mediocrity. ("Results don't matter", "We can't expect to win every match"). Well, winning feels pretty ****ing good, doesn't it?

Well done, boys. Let's continue dreaming big.

Stead is going to go down in history as NZ's best and most successful coach. In 100 years time NZ cricket fans will look back on the Stead era as NZ's greatest cricket era and lament the fact that NZ will never again be able to produce a coach as good as the late great Gary Stead.
CW doesn't like Stead because nerds are know-it-alls who will never be content. You can also see this in how Shastri and Kohli were constantly demonized at the time.

I guess someone is just going to have to peg the ball at Conway's knee then
I was thinking more along the line of bruised finger. Difficult to disprove, enough to prevent him keeping, but not enough to prevent him batting.
