NZ need to realise Ajaz Patel is not going to win them the game and stop bowling him. Try Ravindra and bring in O'Rourke for a short sharp burst if nothing happens in the next 5 overs.

Another option is Southee bowling defensive to a 4-5 or 5-4 field, 2 mid wickets to stop easy single, 3 deep fielders to stop boundaries, off-cutters every 2nd - 3rd ball looking for a grubber lbw. Drying up the runs at the non-Santner end will take a little pressure off Santner.

Why not go with that option, and see if Sundar wants to chance his arm. Latham has surely got to see that the options he has tried to complement Santner haven’t worked, and be proactive about trying to find a solution.

Whats the greatest Indian knock in a successful chase? I suppose Gavaskar-Vishwanath scoring centuries when chasing 400-plus against Holding & Roberts would figure. Among ones Ive seen, SRT vs England at Chennai 2008 (though set up hy Sehwag) and VVS 73* for the one wicket win against AUS at Mohali. Not immediately recalling other obvious contenders.

He came off a 152 batting at no.3 in domestic cricket, he considers himself a batting all rounder , averages 70 in test cricket and played a great knock in Australia scoring 62 coming in at 140 odd for 5 , 96 not out vs England in his last test coming in at 146/6, also the only batsman yet to be dismissed in the test match.

Because Sarfaraz batted like a complete peanut in the first dig? He was truly awful. Maybe they didn't want him coming in after a double strike
