Mahwire does have potential, so does Mpofu, Rainsford, and especially Panyangara. If there is a change in regime, which is not unlikely in the next few years then maybe Ervine, Friend, Olonga etc. might come back. I have been very disppointed with blignaut since his return though, and with Cremer this series.

not trying to make excuses here but it can't have been easy for the Zimbabweans to go straight into a test without playing any first-class for a while. NZ were in the same boat though. However, that may be why Cremer performed so poorly, because he did bowl well v. Bangladesh and in the second test v. SA. I know he's a running joke at the moment but he does have some potential.

Ireland maybe should have played in the second test instead of Mpofu, apparently (like most Zimbabweans unfortunately) he fancies himself an allrounder too.
From his website, it appears he's gone into full-time musician mode these days. Sad loss for the game :@

Absolutely...I remember one performance against England, 6/19 I think it was? Superb stuff.

Henry was a very inconsistent cricketer and he knew it, but on his day he was absolutely brilliant. It is a terrible loss for cricket, but he's not lost to his country yet.

Nasty blow there for Mahwire, I was proud to see how many New Zealand fielders rushed in quickly to see if he was alright, and it was even better to see that he was.

holy crap this is the 2nd team to come close to crossing 400 this year, and this time in just 44 overs. This might be the year when 400 by a team and 200 by individual might get crossed in ODI's. Oh did i just jinx Shewag for next game by saying this ? :)

Anyone see how Cairns bowled? Sounds like another awful performance with the ball. According to Cricinfo him along with Adams were guilty of dragging the ball short.

Bond looked like he was either injured or suffering from heat exhaustion.

woaa what a knock by Vincent this morning that should give the NZ selectors some good headaches now :p ........

Did anyone notice that Kevan Barbour (the umpire) looked like he could have been Lou Vincent's long-lost father? The chins on both of them are massive.

Cairns is a bit of a concern...9 overs for 74 runs is really unacceptable but im willing to believe that he's a bit rusty.

Yea I didn't see him bowl but that is pretty bad.

While it's great to see Vincent scoring runs at the top of the order..the sad reality is that when it comes to tougher opposition he's probably going to struggle again. He's in a lose/lose position at the moment and I hope the selectors are good enough to realise that he should only ever be batting in the middle order for both tests & odi's.

I noticed that Bond had that 'controlled' walk back to his run up as well, as if it was methodical thought processes he has added to his bowling.

Conserving energy i imagine.

I was impressed by Bond. Good pace, consistently between 143 and 147kph. Yet to see his Gilchrist inswinging yorker though.

Cairns certainly looked rusty, especially early on. Greater consistency should follow as the tournament continues. Ditto with his batting. He looked short of a gallop.

Oram showed promising signs. His pace will gradually increase, he was quoted as just trying to get rhythm with his new action.

Wow. Stunning knock by Vincent. I had to sober up pretty quickly when I realised he could break Turner's record. Strangely enough, the rest of the bar didn't really care...

I think we've got to be patient with guys like Bond & Oram..they're obviously having to go through the motions again with modified bowling actions and it seems that they've come back alot fitter and I can't see why both of them can't bowl with a bit of pace when they've gained their fitness back.

Once Bond gets back into the groove he'll definately be clocking 150 km's. He's reaching 147 k's without looking like he's putting much effort into it.
