**Official** New Zealand in West Indies

Must be great to be in Roach' position right now. Not much to lose, allowed to swing the bat, and a fair chance to be there at the end.

This cameo has completely taken the game out of reach IMO even if he gets out now.

Need Williamson on ASAP; he's swinging from the hip.

Well, my money would have been on WI, even without Roach' cameo. WI are going to win this!

Yeah they were obviously favourites but if New Zealand had any hope of winning this they needed to get him out pretty much straight away; this is an annoyance they simply couldn't afford at all.

Not like Roach has just swung his bat and got lucky. Actually played cricket shots to what has been mainly some pretty pedestrian bowling.

Nah lucky is top edging sixes, hitting the ball just over mid-on, in between players in the deep etc..

Just because you swing at something you shouldn't swing at doesn't mean you're getting lucky. He's timing the balls he's hit. It's just that one would normally not advise swinging at that.

And he's been lucky to do so. :p

There's been nothing wrong with how he's batted; he had little to lose and knew if he came out here and played a few good shots it'd deflate the New Zealand bowlers and make it pretty much game over. He's definitely been lucky though - not in the Richard sense of the word, but lucky all the same.

Being 100+ ahead for none on a difficult pitch isn't a dominant position? Ok...

Have to say, well played by Guptill in this series. He hasn't made a big score, but he's done a consistent job at the top against a good quality opening combination, and has looked controlled (if not convincing) against spin at times. Still not convinced, but it's a definite step in the right direction.
Yea were just over 100 ahead, with 4-5 tricky overs left to end the day, the spinners hadn't had a proper bowl yet, Guptil was on 35-40 (so liable to get out at any moment) and Watling looking like he was going to get out at any time throughout his innings. Get through to close and you're in a strong position - still not a dominant one mind because New Zealand don't have the bowling to take advantage of a pitch that's wearing.

The problem with no quality spinner is you look great when the seamers are going well, but if a couple of guys get in you lose control. The batsmen can take the game away very quickly.

Too little, too late, etc.

Williamson's action tho:

Might just be the worst out there, with all due respect to Messrs Ajmal & Botha.

I shouldn’t speak given Tino 95 and all but Roach, Jerome Tayor, Saqlain, Bhaji back-to-back hundreds, Blackcaps really are the worse at bowling at tail-enders.

And how are NZ going to far in India later this month given how they played the part-timer Deonarine?

Good series win from the Windies. Won this test with Gayle not contributing and the series with just one Chanderpaul contribution. Samuels having a great 2012. Still too many passengers but enough dangerous players to win tests and test series now.
