Another soft wicket. We're not going to get anywhere near 316, especially with Narine still to bowl 4 overs.

I suspect these speed guns aren't being entirely truthful.

I have been asleep for the half the game, but I haven't seen a bowler crack the magical 137kph barrier yet, and very few in the 130s compared to the last match.

KW is pure class.

Would that he had Taylor, Ryder and McCullum to bat with.

And has Watling improved or what? I remember hearing about him working with Crowe, and it looks to have paid off.

Batting powerplay costs 3 wickets. The batting powerplay is a fantastic weapon for the bowling team.

Yeah, we were in a perfectly decent position before the powerplay. As it is, 96 off nine overs is perfectly gettable, but not when you're seven down.

Just so soft from Guptill. Turning into Watson
And soft again. Just such weak dismissals. At least make them earn it ffs.

I think you guys are being a little hard. What often seems like 'soft' wickets in ODIs is actually due to chasing a 300+ score.

NZ batted well today, they lost it in the field. Chasing anything over 300 is incredibly tough in the WI.

Beaten convincingly but I suppose that's a better effort. It's hard when Gayle bats like that and half our batsmen are deservedly considered second string and the rest are not high SR players. Shouldn't put too much responsibility on the batsmen when the three capable ones in the top 6 scored 50s and we were chasing a very difficult target. Southee bowled better too.

Nicol now averages 16.4 at horrible strike rate of 50 against non-Zim teams. Don't know if there's any point dropping him for next match though I read McCullum is arriving just before the next ODI.

Flynn scoring half his runs in edges and then edging behind is disappointing. That's what his first incarnation as international batsman was like.

Is Watling playing himself into the test team with his batting or out of it with his keeping?

Half agree with Flem that Oram shouldn't be there given his comments and reduced effectiveness, but again, who do you replace him with right now?

Our experienced ODI bowlers like Mills, Oram and NcCullum doing just enough to be average but none seem capable of stamping their mark on the game.

Need some luck to get Gayle - strangle down the leg side or arrange a seagull to fly in front of him just as someone bowls.

Wish there was only one more ODI and we could start the tests...

We'll win the next one.

Guptill
Watling
Flynn
Williamson
Latham/Brownlie
McCullum (wk)
Ellis
Mills
Southee
Bracewell
Nethula

McCullum is a **** ODI opener and was previously our best finisher and we desperately need some power down the bottom so I'd put him at six. Watling can provide some solidity at the top that Nicol lacks.

I would let Oram go for reasons already stated, and give Ellis the last three ODIs. I realise no one rates him, but he actually wants to be there, is the only other allrounder there and of the successful domestic allrounders he is the most "well rounded" so I think it is fair to give him a chance. He's also in better form than Oram with bat and ball, not that its hard atm. If he's really poop then pick someone else for our next ODI series and move on.

Nathan McCullum doesn't look to have any answers atm so I'd give him a spell and see what we can get from Nethula. I'm reluctant for the selectors to try to turn the leg spinner into an ODI and test bowler at the same time, but if they're going to pick him then lets give him an extended opportunity. Would rather he stayed with the FC stuff though.

Looks awful :p Tbf it's going to look pretty awful no matter what.

Definitely disagree that Watling should open. Finally starts scoring some runs at 6 and this is an invitation to start him in a new role?

I think it's the best allocation of resources. McCullum's ODI opening record is decidedly average since he graduated to the job full time.

Against non minnows, he has 1387 @ 31.52 with only one century from 46 innings. His strike rate is good, but he's basically scoring 30 (40) most of the time.

Now I've just gone and destroyed my argument by looking up the stats for his finishing capabilities, which are worse at first glance and I cbf. But I think in 2007 he showed his quality in the final overs.

Or we can just conclude he is a terrible ODI player.

Also, Watling has spent most of his career opening for ND in List A, so he is no stranger to the position.

I can't believe our newfound obsession with batting McCullum at three in tests though. He's our best opener since Richardson.

He'll probably bat three in the ODIs as well. He did against Zimbabwe. Flynn to open?

Heh, Flynn is another guy who originally made his name or was at least brought into the international side as a finisher. Everyone is becoming the opposite of what they were.

So many **** soft dismissals from us in the H/Ls, but hey we actual got to something respectable.

EDIT: I thought we burned all those ****ing horns after the football world cup?
