International Captain
Watling to open, Ronchi at 7 with the gloves. Boult dropped.

You all know it's happening.
Sorry, I'm calling BS on that.

Craig will come in for Wagner, and one of Rutherford/Fulton will drop out for Latham.

Latham
Rutherford/Fulton
Williamson
Taylor
McCullum
Anderson
Watling+
Southee
Sodhi
Craig
Boult

I've seen someone (a fan) on cricinfo calling for Neesham to open in place of Rutherford/Fulton. I must confess I'm starting to warm to the idea. It also gives us some more bowling cover if Sodhi and Craig get smashed

That's why Anderson was initially picked in the team. We also have Williamson. There's heaps of bowling.

Hopefully the selectors have matured beyond the fit the best 6 batsman into the team ethos. opening is a specialist position we have made so many errors in putting non openers or reluctant openers at the top of the order unsuccessfully and then we look around surprised when they fail ie.
Hamish Marshall, Adam Parore, Matthew Sinclair, Peter Fulton (2006), BJ Watling(09/10), and Lou Vincent late in his career after he had scored a double century batting at 4.

Maybe we shouldn't sacrifice a batsman in the opening spot, but why not sacrifice a bowler? Get Southee to open. I reckon that he'll end up scoring more runs than Fulton 50% of the time, and actually last longer at the crease maybe 30% of the time. And if he opens with Latham then we'll retain Hesson's precious RH/LH opening combination.

Sheesh, and we thought Blocky was mad for wanting Ryder to open.

Southee would be lucky to last a single over at the top of an innings. He has zero defensive ability. Zero.

Heaps of bowling yes but is that attack really gonna take 20 wickets? looks like a team designed to draw imo.

Really is interesting how things have changed since our tour of NZ last year...back then it was us who didn't have a clue what the team would be...now the shoe is on the other foot :D .

Well Corey's record against WI is 7 wickets at 17 apiece, so I'm betting that he'll back himself to do alright.

The team has had no difficulty taking 20 wickets in Sri Lanka, England and against India in NZ on pretty flat wickets.

I don't think taking 20 wickets will be an issue.

In india? when? because in their last tour HERE 20 wickets wasn't taken in either test. Also the team you lot were talking about didn't have Boult which would weaken the attack a lot imo even though he failed in Bang. Talking of Bang 20 wickets wasn't taken there also  .

read my post again.
"and against India in NZ".
It's hard to see from all the outcomes that the bowlers not being incisive enough will be an issue.

re: Bangladesh; no Southee to hold Boult's hand on that tour.
