I’d be tempted to give Vandersay another crack at it. He looked great in the limited overs game recently and looks like he’s made a few improvements to his game. Not sure how it’d translate to Tests but worth a shot I reckon. Plus I’m biased because he lives close by and is a friendly sort.

Worth a shot is good enough IMO. You already got DDS to bowl whatever offspin is necessary.

Gotta say, seeing a Jayasuriya and a De Silva combine to smash an opponent side to a win in SL takes me back to my teenage years.

Ramesh holding an end down for Prabath is far more useful imo but agreed, his action appears a little flawed
Ramesh doesn't need to hold an end. He is a much more attacking bowler than Jayasuriya. In spin friendly conditions he bowls a hell of a lot of wicket taking deliveries than Jayasuriya.

DDS and Kamindu have to do the holding job if needed. It is not Ramesh.

who are the players NZ are missing to T20 who could be playing here? ok they made only 88, but that top 7 looks pretty strong, stats better than englands top 7, maybe lathams past his best.
It's not who is missing so much, it's the lack of energy, focus, due care and attention on their Test game of the guys who are there.

My understanding is NZ were completely rotten on day 1, Kamindu is very good, and the rest of the game has been a sort of automatic process from there
Thanks. Sort of performance that you might see first game of a tour, but it seems this is the 2nd Test and I completely missed one. (Being made mod on a cricket website has apparently made me immediately less clued in to international cricket.)

Man, what happened here? Have NZ been completely dire or are plucky Sri Lanka punching above their weight?
Day 1: NZ dropped easy catches, missed easy stumpings, and had a wicket off a no ball. Instead of 300/3 it could've easily been 260/6 with the tail. Bowling was actually not that bad until the last hour with decent control, but fielding was like an unfit, hungover social team

Days 2 & 3: SL dominant & NZ dreadful

True but Ramesh kept releasing pressure making it harder for Prabath to do his job. Also, Im not sure waiting for those wicket taking rippers is the best mode of action

That is the issue. Ramesh is their to do the "job", not "support" it. He puts way more revs on the ball than jayasuriya and is a bigger threat on wickets that spin less. If Jauasuriya wants support, DDS and Kamindu could very well do it. The former will run in and dart the ball on the same spot all day long.

Does NZ have a warm up game before the India series? Two weeks before the first test starts on the 16th.
