*Official* New Zealand in Sri Lanka

Lack of ruthlessness from NZ's two best players with SL's spinners not at their best so far. Missed an opportunity to build an imposing lead.

Impressive stats they showed earlier.
Latham probably the greatest NZ player vs Sri Lanka, Williamson has insane record vs Sri Lanka at home , but Latham has the more balanced record.

Latham vs Sri Lanka :

At home: 810 runs in 8 tests @67.50
Away : 299 runs in 3 tests* @74.75

Williamson vs Sri Lanka
Home : 1142 runs in 8 tests at 114.20
Away : 242 runs in 5 tests* at 30.25

I know SL were minnows in the 80s, but Hadlee's record against them is also incredible

Great test so far. If it was 55:45 in SL's favour at the end of day 1, you'd say it's probably 60:40 to NZ now.

First hour tomorrow is vital. A 50 run lead would be handy. A 100 run lead probably decisive. Fingers crossed Daz can carry on with it.

We are in a better position at stumps tonight than we were last night.

The old firm of Latham, Williamson and Mitchell stepping up with the bat with the new kid on the block Ravindra playing a handy knock too.

O'Rourke the big positive so far with his 5'fer, we badly need a young fast bowler to step up with Boult retired, Southee cooked and Jamieson injured.

Williamson missed out on a easy hundred.
Yeah both he and Latham should be kicking themselves, thought SL were too inconsistent with the ball and didn’t build much pressure, unlikely they’ll be as listless as the series goes on. Ravindra too looked good for more.

That said a very good day for NZ, wiping off the tail quickly and getting close to SL’s total. Sets the match up nicely.

Good stuff. Between this pair, Phillips and Santner we *should* be on for a 50 run lead, maybe more. Though 9-11 is weak.

Is this going to be something we increasingly come to expect from our Test players now? Even Latham is playing franchise cricket. These guys aren't playing a lot, if any four day cricket in between increasingly big gaps of Test cricket. We don't generally play warm-up matches.

Speaking of which, is there a trend towards unconverted 50s in the last 5 years or so, when T20 started proliferating?
