I also made comment about Mills's action in another forum. Very dodgy specially when trying to bowl faster than what he actually can :| But also like someone said above, this use to be much worse. What I can't understand why havent anyone pulled him up about it yet.

is that lady doing the commentary the first woman commentator for cricket?
No of course not. Donna Symonds from West Indies who covered Windies Cricket around the 1999 Cricket World Cup and just prior to that and after would be the first.

Then there was Sybil Roscoe who covered Radio 5 Live in England ( and later Channel 4 coveage on TV ) more as a outfield commentator (ie around the crowds or doing interviews).

Recently the Aussies have had their retiring Womens Captain (was in Karen Rolton or some name like that) give commentaries during the VB series IIRC.

This person is I believe a South African woman of Indian origin, but I remember seeing her during last years ODI series in SA between NZ and SA .

Mills's action was definitely dodgy earlier, but he has improved it a lot, so it's not quite fair that it's starting to be mentioned now that he's having success with an improved action. It was a really dodgy action back when he wasn't bowling very well but not many people mentioned it then.

Test is evenly poised ATM, IMO .

If Fleming , Fulton, Astle and co bat well , NZ could easily get a 100 plus first innings lead which would be adequate on this pitch to nail SA.

But I was listening to John (Mystery) Morrison on Radio Sport and he was of the opinion this pitch would be a hard grafting type of pitch, where batters will need to play long grafting kind of innings and will be hard to score in a hurry.

I have to agree with him on that from observing Day 1 .

I'm worried about how our openers will fare. Bracewell talked a couple of months ago about moving away from makeshift openers. Interesting.

Moving players around has to be unsettling and one feels Bracewell must now stop fidgeting around the batting order and let guys who open in FC cricket do the job or at least be given a decent run without changing them around.

I think it is pretty much a given that we will be 20/2 or something similar. It is up to Fleming, Styris and Astle to make sure it only gets better from there.

Which is why Franklin and Mills should open - I mean, if we're going to be giving away a wicket, we may as well leave the better batsmen to our "non-jinxed" places. :p

i have to say..... the TV coverage of this game is HORRIBLE ....

A) The commentators are beyond horrible (they even make richardson sound OK)
B) The sound quality is horrible (the buzz.....)
C) Within the first 10 minutes of the game starting ... that women commentator was calling this game a "Let down" and basically saying it would be a easy whitewash for south africa..

ooo well

Have to agree with you on all points. Even more frustrating is that they can't tell the difference between players namely between Oram and Fulton. When Oram was in his first bowling spell, in the overs when he wasn't bowling they kept saying he was at leg slip though at leg slip was actually fulton - duh? why would a bowler be standing at leg slip during his spell where it is rather hot . .wouldn't he actually be taking on fluids down on the boundary?

Also some of the camera work is pretty average. . it is only now you realise how good Sky NZ and Channel 9's coverage is.

hehe...I'd earlier made the same 3 points

I have a horrible feeling that the South African bowlers will be very dangerous on this pitch

South Africa all out for 276.

Probably 30 runs more than NZ would have liked after having them 233/8. Overall though, not a bad effort particularly without Bond.

I hate so say it but I feel the south african bowlers will be more than a handful on this variable wicket. Particularly Ntini, whose bounce is awkward at the best of times. And no doubt Pollock will get assistance with his nagging line and length. Don't know much about the 3rd seamer Steyn, but he is supposed to be sharp.

How the hell did that bail stay on from the franklin delivery ?

That's a ****ing awful decision. How on earth could that have been given out.

**** me. That's up there with the worst I have ever seen.

Fleming was really unlucky, perfect example of why we need more technology to make decisions.
Interesting to see that Pollock once again has not opened the bowling. Steyn is doing a good job though.

I agree with you entirely. In fact I said it a while ago, Kiwi commentators are the worst. When you watch NZ play it's boring and a big part of that has to do with bad commentators.
