Really awful in Australia and WI. Average to above average everywhere else. And those are great numbers for a guy who has played 90%+ of his innings at #7.He is decent enough in the subcontinent but very poor outside the SC

The fact that Dhoni's figures are as good as they are across the world, just makes me think he is going to have a hell of a decline sometime soon. He is a pretty horrible batsman, frankly, in the longer format. Don't think he is underrated at all.
Quote.SteveNZ checking in shortly, "told you he stands too far back" etc.
This couldn't be less true IMO. His average vastly exaggerates the difficulty and importance of the runs he's scored in Test cricket, probably more than any other player I've ever witnessed. Having followed his career from the start, his record being as good as it is actually makes me question my whole system of rating players for ot just tells so many lies about the quality of his batsmanship and the value his batting adds to a team.quite a few pivotal innings for his team
Agree except the bolded part. When your team is in a commanding position, you help the team win by scoring some quick runs, especially if you're an attacking batsman like Dhoni. When he comes in to bat with India leading by 250 or less, he averages less than 28. The bloke comes in after other blokes have piled on runs against demoralised and tired bowlers and essentially scores comparatively meaningless declaration runs.

I agree that he's a pathetic batsman (average for a wicketkeeper) when coming after a collapse, or when trying to squeeze a draw on day 5 or something like that.
The problem is that his technique isnt good enough to perform consistently outside the SC and his keeping isnt that good to offset his mediocre batting. To add to that, in the 8-0 debacle, he never looked like putting up a fight. I agree that India isnt spoilt for choices when it comes to keeper batsmen and that is what keeps Dhoni's spot secure. but Saha should be given a few chancesReally awful in Australia and WI. GDIAFzGetting out to Jeets Patel of all people ... sheesh
