Butcher. That's what we needed. Excellent.

Now it's bed time for me, only 12 hours until a university exam.

I'll go on record now as saying that the decision to change the ball has transformed this test.

The bouncer which went for four byes first ball was the only one which anyone had got above stump height in an hour - and that followed by the only ball to swing in an hour.

Talk about clever.

Definitely Cairns is bowling 2/3 mph faster than ive seen him for a while, i guess he knows this is his last test so it doesnt matter if he knackers himself out
So long as he's fit for the ODI's, he hasn't retired that end just yet! I reckon he's in good money for a 14th five wicket bag and a second ten wicket haul, too.

G'luck with your exams, Ed. Er, Ed with a capital E, note, to save you guys getting mixed up...

EDIT: Anyone know what was wrong with the original ball? Couldn't catch anything when I was looking, might have flicked the channel at the wrong time mind you.

That's what i meant about Butcher. No doubt it was a good ball and i know he averages 50 or something but he's got serious head issues. He seems to get out on 58/59 all the time.

well i mentioned this several times during the WI tour......its something that he really needs to work on, converting those 50s to 100s. this was one of those rare occasions where he didnt actually throw it away with a poor shot but nonetheless it is a major problem....something that has cost us several series in the past.

What?

You make it sound as though the man is a liability to the England side.

That's 5 isn't it?
