So, no Macca with Papps brought in. Whether Fleming is replaced by Sinclair will be decided tonight NZT. To top it off McCullum is bedridden with a chest infection.

This will go down as one of NZ's worst lead-ins to a test ever, perhaps as bad as some of the early subcontinent tours. The really empty feeling about it is if logic prevails and they lose, the tour can only be a failure with 5 weeks still to go.

Ive never seen such a hoohaa made over one little event than the return of Vaughan....

Seriously BSkyB and cricinfo have been acting like its a life or death situation whether he is fit for the next test, and then if he will bat at 2 or 3... Madness, dont they have anything else to cover?

Henman wasn't playing today, so Sky News only had Vaughan and Chelski to talk about.

jeeez................2 of the team battling illness, another 2 fighting injuries, another 2 who can't buy runs, and an allrounder having to play as a batsman..............

they either have a lot of faith in Cairns & Vettori's recent form carrying over, or they are expecting to get more than a few overs out of Styris as the 5th option..................

this last point may have been the clincher so far as team selection went.........and Papps had to come in as a specialist opener once Fleming got the ear infection, as he's not likely to want to bat too soon..............otherwise I think Sinclair would have started.............

NZL will do well to come out with a draw unless the bowling attack fires up...........

If I was an NZ fan, I'd be very, very worried about the seeming lack of potency in the attack.

funny thing is - I've got my 6 - 4 mix........... :D 8-)

and in the post Cairns era the only change I'd make (all things being equal re form etc), would be to bring Bond in for Cairns........... :)

Yet if you listen to some people they still have a bowler better than the No.2 ranked bowler in the world and the Worlds best all rounder.

 good for Harmison that he's made that ranking, but I don't expect him to stay there................and I think Pollock & a few others may have something to say when it comes to the best allrounder's claim.............Flintoff's bowling figures need to improve a fair bit b4 he lays claim to that one - no matter how well he's bowling.........he's still not taking the wickets this series so far................ :D

Especially since he's already made it quite clear that he's going to bat at four. Arguing about whether he will bat two or three in the circumstances is even more stupid than Vile Charlescol usually is, which is extremely.

Cheers,

Mike

Are you sure you've spelt the last word but six correctly? Looks like it ought to have an "a" in it to me.

Cheers,

Mike

bit surprised to see that they are going in with the same bowling attack that looked rather lacklustre in the first test.

Eyes not spreadsheets
Although it's actually a weaker attack as Oram can't bowl in the match!

The perils of a 14 man squad with injury doubts included in the 14!
