*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

Jeets can get huge turn even in April at some of the venues (like Old Trafford. below). Their pitches can develop these really blackened and powdery footmarks by the middle of day 2, and their left-armer Keith Barker is a key to making the footmarks for him in the right spots, he's said.

Yeah it's that 60% clay content that kills Jeets and Mark Craig and Tim Johnston, isn't it. Prevents the New Zealand game from ever developing a better-looking balance between PEWS' favourites and crude agribusinessmen.

Yeah it seems to me they could come up with some kind of agriscience to give poor old Tim Johnston and his 61 FC average a hand up, rather than a hand out (of the game). The Flem274* students aren't using their degrees to get into cricket curating though, so instead its the Barts of the world (rather than Lisas) manning the sports desk.

This team is better and I would be disapointed if we lost either the test or ODI series.
Think you're underestimating England as a test side at home - especially in the early summer. Admittedly there's a chance we'll catch them while they're rapped up in internal turmoil and uncertainty (as SRL did last summer), but if they turn up then I think they'll win the tests (don't forget how effortlessly they brushed aside India once they got into a rhythm last summer).

Anderson and Broad are trump cards at home for them. They're mediocre over here because they've never figured out the New Zealand length (especially Broad) but over there they are Steyn/Philander, Harris/Johnson and Southee/Boult level.

It will probably be a low scoring series since both bowling line ups will love the duke. If New Zealand win it will be because their third seamer outdoes whoever England end up picking. Bracewell/Wagner/Henry etc can't afford to go missing on this tour like they did last time.

In England's favour is the shortness of the Test series. A longer one and New Zealand would be favourites, but as it is, there's more than enough going for England to get the chocolates.

Sure, I am not saying it is a given and it will be a hard series but I will still be disappointed if we lost.

The fact that 2/3rds of the side is turning up only 48 hours before the coin toss won't help either.
Indeed - that was my logic behind the one word answer i gave. That and the fact that traditionally we don't perform optimally in the first test of a series anyway.

This series should have been a thre match series. I guess this was planned probably a couple of years ago when NZ weren't as good as they are now.

By the way, I just watched a bit of the highlights of the IPL on their site and I got to say these modern bats are making a mockery of the game. Mere flicks, gentle pushes are carrying 60 metres. These bats make ordinary players into good ones.

lies, you are all quietly confident.
I guess the biggest reason for not believing we will win is that we essentially have the same team that got trounced over their last time. And that trouncing was after our upturn in fortunes as we had just finished putting in a credible performance against England at home.

I think our bowling will go ok over there. I think our batting is heavily dependent on the openers being able to put on modest partnerships of 30 to 40 at least before the first wicket goes down. If Kane is going to be walking out there to bat when the ball is 2 to 3 overs old then we are going to be doing it tough.
The very first telling sign of our chances will come when we learn who will be opening with Latham. If it is Rutherford again then that does not bode well. And tbh Guptill does not bode much better as his defence is not robust. It has come an awfully long way I will grant you from the man who simply didn't know how to play a backfoot defence on one tour and had to compulsively pull everything. But it is still not test-match-opening-batsman level tight. And the standards required of a test match opening batsman are extremely exacting and tougher than for any other batting position in the team.

ABR - stands for anyone but Rutherford and that needs to be what we want as fans as going into this series. Guptill needs to have a breakthrough series. Here's hoping his time in English County cricket stands him in good stead and that our selectors pick him.
