So why don't we cancel the two Test series and go home then?

Because Cricket Australia need the money from the over priced food and beverages, even if it is for 3 days.

thats because we (Aussies) will always be good :p
I'm guessing you weren't around in the mid-80's then......

Actually, I wonder how dominant they'll be in 3-4 years time. The batting should be OK of course, but I'm not sure who the next generation of bowlers will be.

With the domestic set-up the Australians have, i'm sure they'll be ok.

I remember the TVS series, Australia blooded 2 new quickies. A left-armer seamer and another fast bowler - they were pretty good. In any other side they would have been kept selected and by now they would be great international quicks.

I'm sure with all Australia's resources they will be alright.

Bracken and Williams did actually bowl very well in that series. Particularly Bracken, he had a series of excellent games with figures in the 2 or 3 for 30 range.

edit:
I just looked up his series stats.

3/53 (10)
3/25 (9)
4/29 (10)
0/39 (10)
3/34 (7.3)
1/15 (8)

That gives him series figures from 6 matches of 14 wickets at 13.93 with an economy rate of 3.58.

Against a couple of pretty solid ODI sides, that's a very nice series by any standard, in my view.

I don't really rate him as a bowler mind you, but I can see why someone could watch that series and think pretty highly of him.

Looking at Williams' career, he has struggled with injury and has been poor in the tests. His ODI record is awesome.

Both bowlers looked awesome in the TVS series. However bowling against a top order of Nevin/Vincent/McMillan would have been rather easy.

Anyway, I think Australia will do okay for bowlers. Gillespie and Lee will be around for a fair while yet, and Tait is very promising as a future test bowler. I'd say he will be blooded in ODIs very soon. There's also Watson, if he manages to string some form together after changing his action.

The main weakness is the lack of a good young spinner coming through, since I don't really rate White or Hauritz at all.

Well - how old is MacGill? 30 something i'm guessing, at best he will get 1 season of test cricket after Warne retired.

Anyway, not every team can have a worldclass spinner in their side all the time, not even the Aussies.

Perhaps Warne is just an anomoly in the grand scheme of Australian bowlers.

I think MacGill is on the wrong side of 30.

If he and Warnie were born in any other Test playing nation, they would both get in the national side without question.

I'm just wondering how confident NZL is of Fleming being fit for the Test...........I know the initial reports were that he'd be fit enough, but for some reason I don't feel so confident - perhaps it has something to do with him not committing himself until after the Wed practice..............

I have read that Fleming will play if he is 75-80% right, sort of makes a mockery of Bracewell's comments about only starting players if 100% etc - especially after the debacle in the original squad to ENG...............

say for arguement's sake he declared himself unfit - what the hell would the batting lineup look like?????? I'm guessing Macca will walk in, but who would bat at #3 & would they be forced into going with a 6-4 split because of a weakened & shuffled batting order???????????

i'd like to introduce u guys to the fact that Dizzy's still on the right side of 30, I'd like to introduce u to Sean Tait... and Brett Lee

Sinclair has a hamstring complaint too! He should be alright though.

If Fleming is unfit, then McMillan will play. Fulton should be over there instead of this clown. This also increases the possibility of McCullum being pushed up the order.

I wouldn't mind seeing Fleming play if he's 80% fit. He can recover slowly during the 5 days of the test anyway.

From what I've heard we'll get Mark Nicholas again and probably Michael Holding. I haven't heard any suggestions of a New Zealand commentator, and can't remember who the Pakistan one is, might be Akram, but he might be on the radio.
ian smith will be joining the channel 9 team for the series.

What about Matthew Nicholson? He took 2 wickets in an over against New Zealand. Both of them were bowled. He could be an up and coming pace bowler.

As for spin, I am not sure about it, but what about Jason Krejza? He nearly caused an upset by being an option of selection in the Australia vs India game.

neither of them are test class bowlers ATM. bracken will probably never be, williams if he can get his accuracy and action sorted out might be.

just looking up nicholson's stats, he played one test against england and was the best bowler in the 2nd innings for australia with 3/56. might be good if someone could enlighten me as to why he was dropped.....
