International Regular
Vettori is confirmed to captain NZ in the test, on the proviso that Fleming is not fit, obviously.

NZL 201 all out................after being 1/110...........bloody 5-5 split......

Marshall, McMillan & Oram all fail again @ 3, 5 & 6 respectively..........

no way should Oram be at #6 v AUS & likewise Macca looks to have not learned a thing after being dropped for the BAN series...............

and Sinclair top scores again in both innings...............

I went to the match today and it was pretty boring. What I found amazing was that as they were 0/110 they then proceeded to 2/110.

Following the opening partnership, New Zealand practically collapsed. The only other short partnership was with Styris and Sinclair.

I was amused by a delivery from Nicholson which the batsmen left. The ball then went on to the stumps.

We're screwed. This tour is turning into an absolute nightmare.
Oram looks as though he's going to be of no use with the bat in this series after his recent form & Styris & Marshall are just simply not scoring enough runs.

I wouldn't put much stock in tour matches... Last year India played very poorly against Victoria and QAS...

I know it's only a mid week game, but yet again we see the traditional NZL batting collapse from #4 down................the last 7 wickets fell for about 17 runs!!!!!!!!!!

not enough batsman
too much OD type batting
not enough backbone & determination to preserve their wicket..............

I think NZ will lift in the test matches...I don't think we'll see thumpings, but I do believe Australia will win convincingly in both tests.

Who should bat at 6 then?

I honestly can't come up with a name I'm fully happy with. Obviously Bracewell's hand was forced in this NSW match, with Marshall at 3 and Franklin at 7 not in anyone's plans.

I'm pleased to eat my words about Sinclair (so far anyway), but Marshall's slow bowlers/surfaces trend is a major concern IMO. I doubt a 6-4 split would even help us prolong the game if Warne can turn Marshall and Oram into virtual tailenders.

Marshall has looked less assured at the crease, the longer he has played at Interntaional leve. Perhaps he's showing his true talent, or is just out of form. I'm not ribbing the guy though, I'd still pick him in the side and hope he performs.

Aslong as McMillan doesn't play then I am happy! A middle of Order of Styris, Astle & McMillan is UNACCEPTABLE.

The addition of Fleming, McCullum & Vettori will bolster the batting line-up. Astle also scored a century in his last game in Australia.

Any thoughts of playing an extra bowler has obviously been abandoned :)

There's a chance Butler/Franklin/Oram/Vettori could still prove too weak for Bracewell's liking I reckon. He's talked about an attack without a spearhead needing to work as a group (and that seemed to work reasonably well in the NSW 1st inn), while Fleming has warned against not picking too many bowlers so the ones chosen will feel added responsibility.

I guess the fact Styris and Marshall failed and 3 of our other main runscorers will be without a warmup, leans things strongly towards Fleming's view. But if Marshall's just going to play back to Warne or spoon up soft catches to cover (like he did in BAN) and gully (like he did against MacGill yesterday), I'd rather have McCullum at 6 anyway.

Marshall gets out 40% of the time in the SC to domestic spinners - now he's about to face Warne. I'll be hugely impressed if he can handle it.

It won't be long before Fulton replaces Marshall IMO. Im not writing Marshall off totally, but he looks as though he'll be another one of those players that relies on one type of wicket to push his average up.

There's been alot of talk about how 'slow' this NZ attack is. Look, I don't really care..Australia have dealt to South Africa & Pakistan in recent times & they probably have the fastest bowling attacks around.
If NZ have studied new fielding plans & the bowlers bowl a consistent line & length, the wickets will come.

Styris & Oram have got to stand up with the bat also. If Oram wants to become a recognised all-rounder this is the time to do it...he just can't keep going on playing 1 good innings in a series & then getting out softly the rest of the time. The same goes for Styris...he's had a good start to his test career, but it all means nothing unless he performs in the most important matches.

Butler looks as though he was bowling quite well on a flattish track, which raises my hopes that he might perform well in this series...I think we've got to go with Oram, Butler & either Martin or Franklin.
