At least from the side on it looked almost like it had taken a slither of the pad and was sliding way down leg.

Although he hasn't taken a wicket, think Astle has been surprisingly accurate.
Yeah he's been fine. If he can bowl like this every time he's a better pick than Santner for the regular "spinner that is secretly actually a batsman because whoever we pick is gonna bowl a handful of overs and take 0/20 unless we get smashed" role.

Yeah he's looked alright today. In part that may be down to how low my expectations of him were pre game, but he's been decent

it's been rough for both of them having to bowl this much on a fresh strip but you know if it ever comes to a last day wearing pitch they're both going to be much tougher propositions than santner.

Wonder if in the aftermath of this series we'll see a change of tack on bits-and-pieces allrounders. Esp if he scores runs, Phillips at 6 and either a proper spinner or no spinner? Would be nice for Astle to finally take some test wickets even if I think Somerville & Ajaz are usually better options.

Would love to somehow see this. I'm sure we'll score 680 batting second, right?

I think what will hold Astle back is that flat trajectory. Test batsmen will pick it up earlier than FC batsmen.
Wonder if that's been intentional this innings - he's replacing containing spinner Mitchell Santner after all. Previously he's been known to loop it up (with a fair few full tosses thrown in).
