*Official* New Zealand domestic season 2022/23

They're trying to get some turn going. We'll only know if that does the job when spinners come on. That's the direction nzc is taking now for the second half of the ps
Yeah. Can see the second foot mark forming well within the brown section.

So. Pace and bounce if pitching short. Spin, potentially, on a full and good length.

Looks like the seamers getting seam on the green back-of-a-length. But e.g. Georgeson not following it so looking safe if he is disciplined and executed good technique.

In theory, a good looking surface to challenge and encourage a few different disciplines.

Surprisingly good effort.

That is right, they can only afford to do this second half unless there's lot of sun early in the season. Rachin was smashing every ball pitched up or missing that good length. The areas fast bowlers can bowl and get away is less which is good. They will need to develop consistency and ability to bowl in those areas to good players otherwise they will get pumped. Bumpers at good height will become a potential ball to take wickets. They'll have to hit the deck harder.

Hope this continues. Helps domestic cricket overall

So rachin has adopted bazzball... scoring 33 at 8 RPO and getting out on the boundary. Reckon bazzball will come alive in our domestic cricket across teams?
Just saw that dismissal, yes a shot-a-minute and then one too many. While he possibly feels like he can play every shot in the book at domestic level, should just focus on ruthlessly notching up centuries to put pressure for an NZ spot. Season average still not great iirc.

Agree it would have been nice to see Robinson back after doing well again in club cricket. I think he batted too low in the Super Smash, he's a top order player. Stoked to seen Abbas, Lellman and Thorn Parkes playing this round. CD probably would have had Curtis Heaphy and Will Clark if that had gone ahead too.

I guess he is so tidy sometimes can get carry away. There were no slogs, lots of good shots. It's a tough one to balance I suppose when you're hitting the ball very well. It's such small margins, if he connected that one properly and sailed over he would have demoralized the bowling attack.

What I've seen is he gets out to lesser bowlers in any attack. Can't remember the time he got out to a black caps bowler from memory. Would be interesting to check.

Probably should get a bit selfish and just bat as long as he can. Once he's a permanent in the black caps side he could bat the way he is. Pretty destructive though I have to admit but just not enough. No one cares about 30s in four day games no matter how good a touch someone is in. 150+ and people will sit up and notice.

Looks like both Canterbury and Otago only have one specialist opener in their squad. I’d like to see Canterbury give Rhys Mariu a go. Did ok for NZu19, scores runs for fun at Hawke Cup level for Canterbury Country and pretty consistent at A level
Mariu is actually making his debut. Wasn’t on the original team sheet but looks like Fletcher is out and Hay is keeping

Finn Allen out early. Was hoping for some entertainment from him. Not to be.

Liking the looks of abbas, I was told he's a very good player of spin and I can see why. Has a good balance stance, looks to score of every ball. Definitely a good addition to firebirds. Glad to see lot of potential lads getting a go. That's the way it should be.

Travis Muller who's not quick by any stretch of imagination sconed Abbas early on. It's hard to come up from under 19s, club one day cricket when you're trying to pull at every short ball to a 4 day format where your choice of pulling varies as per bowler, decks and how worn or fresh the deck is. The kid will have to do some work on short stuff but otherwise looks to have very good body language, positive outlook and not overwhelmed at the occasion.

Really shows the silliness in sending out a 12-man squad with 8 bowlers. If Fletcher's illness had set in closer to the game then the team balance would be super dumb dumb. A bit odd Mariu's above Boyle and McClure though, given Foulkes is a decent opener.

The boy can certainly bat v spin, I say, as he misses a wrongun, and Chu fluffs a stumping.

I wish we had another A tour to Asia coming up, to see how he would go.

Rippon is bowling so much junk, poor fella is having yips for a while and nothing is been done. Black caps picked him for the India tour when he was having bowling yips and promptly didn't play him at all. Great timing black caps.

Why go to bother of trying to 'fix' him, if Ebrahim can draft in some random CD hawke cup cricketer he knows, like Marty Kain.

Marty Kain has moved to USA I think. He's working towards a cricketing career in USA. Could even feature in major cricket league.

It's astonishing the management didn't know Rippon's bowling state. That's unbelievable. Surely you'd think they'd check or know what's going on with him prior selecting
Bob Carter would have had him on the A tour in November?
