Plays for Nelson in the Hawke Cup, ftr. I mean, the problem with him is that he's been so **** no other team would have him (except Auckland, I guess)Jarrod McKay does look distinctly slippery, wouldn't be surprised if a few of these are nudging up to 145k. Should consider a change of province. The University Oval is not the ideal home for a young fast bowler.
Tickner, McKay, O'Rourke - my current list of NZ fast bowlers with potential that might only be brought to fruition by top-class fast bowling coaching.Jarrod McKay does look distinctly slippery, wouldn't be surprised if a few of these are nudging up to 145k. Pity O’Brien’s wife is so dead set on keeping the family in the UK. He worked wonders with Smith during his brief stint with Wellington last year.Tickner, McKay, O'Rourke - my current list of NZ fast bowlers with potential that might only be brought to fruition by top-class fast bowling coaching.
Ton up! Rachin has peeled off some glorious shots since lunch. Still it’s been very easy batting today, I think he really needs to convert it into a big one to make his point to the selectors.A century here from Rachin might well get him selected.
I did some Young vs Nicholls analysis a couple of years ago. Starting the season of Nicholl's NZ debut (2015-16) they were at a similar stage of their career, Nicholls better 50 over stats, Young better FC stats (Nicholls 32 FC games, 1852 runs @ 33, 2 x 100s, 12 x 50s. Young 29 games, 1788 runs @ 39, 2 x 100s, 11 x 50s. ) Both low 50 -> 100 FC conversion ratios. But Nicholls got 2 games against a weak Sri Lanka A, got 2 x downhill skiing 100s after 150 run Raval + Brownlie opening stands. Young only got 1 game 1 innings 66 against SL A. When injuries opened up a spot in the NZ ODI team Nicholls got the deserved nod, and made just enough ODI runs to keep in in the forefront of the selectors minds when Taylor was injured before the next test series.... I do feel Will Young could have been played way earlier. Not sure why that didn't happen but we missed the boat. He was out of the world cup squad in 2019 due to shoulder injury and was laid low for like a year nearly but still could have played him much earlier.

Phillips is getting a lot of overs in. I wonder if either a) he thinks his best chance to make the test team is as an all-rounder and/or b) the selectors have made it clear that this is what they want from him?Ton up! By the way I love watching Phillips bowl. So much enthusiasm and excitement.
Yes I made a post a while ago that Nicholls has been the bane of Young's NZ career, has blocked him in both test and ODI cricket repeatedly. And tbf to Nicholls, after looking terrible in his early test matches he fought very hard and earned his NZ spot for quite a few years, until he switched his game to whatever it is he's doing now.I did some Young vs Nicholls analysis a couple of years ago. In an alternative reality Young might have got two games vs SL A, and Nicholls one, Young could have scored the downhill skiing centuries, and their test careers could have been reversed.
Foulkes the next CdG? I know he needs more runs, but has batting potential from the brief clips I have seen.Nice shape from Foulkes to get Raval
Tbf to him, Wellington are now clearly setting up a declaration. And Ravindra goes through a loose legside heave for 118. He got his ton though, which is exactly what he needed to do.
Did you used to watch Snowden on Sport which was on an early version of Prime TV? (Horizon Pacific?!)on a tangent. With O'Rourke and Sears in plunket shield, and I see a Jonas in the Wellington women's game. Am getting full 1990s Wellington seam bowler Sports Roundup flashbacks. I am hearing all these names in my head with Ron Snowden's voice.
Yeah. I didn’t mean that first bit to sound judgemental - I was just disappointed he didn’t get more. But 33 and 118 opening, and 3-19 bowling is a strong reminder to the selectors.Tbf to him, Wellington are now clearly setting up a declaration.
Good inswinger to Popli too. He might share with CDG that his bowling doesn't look like it should be tremendously threatening, but he has the knack for wickets. Maybe he bowls a Heavy Ball (TM).Foulkes the next CdG? I know he needs more runs, but has batting potential from the brief clips I have seen.
Curious too, especially if you consider the possibility of quick runs would benefit them at the moment.I wonder why Allen is getting bumped down the order?
