Most of his runs have been in 2nd innings pre-declaration bashes, after Auckland had a 1st innings lead. So good warmup for Netherlands white ball series.

Only 72 runs in 4 1st innings bats. Not so good if he wants to be in test squad to England.
Won't be playing the dutch, will be off to IPL. Good warm up for IPL I guess

Yeah the Ave selection didn't go down well in the Facebook comments (Otago Cricket's page). One comment had 33 likes. They were keen to see Benji Culhane or Cam Jackson keep, or Parkes or Llew Johnson to play as a bat with Renwick to revert to middle-order.

Interesting. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who cared, and my only connection with Otago is some holidays in Queenstown. I even went to ODT site the other day (as they have best domestic and local cricket reporting) to see if it was an issue with this locally, or perhaps they have some explanations on why the other 4 or 5 local options weren't used - if they were even available - but nothing.

Kippax, your earlier reply to me on the topic, I think was quite right. having Renwick keep in middle order with Cumming back to open with Parkes or BWG in middle order would have been too green. So, my view of this as an opportunity to blood Kitchen and Broom replacements ... not really ideal. (Cumming probably appreciated it at 5 this match). So, really needed to see it as a straight promote local keeper (Jackson, Culhane or Tasman-Jones).

But the 2 other huge issues about this:
- The legitimacy of the entire Plunket Shield competition. While only the anoraks really care anyway, adding draft players rather than promoting locals when **** happens, well ..... come one .... it's starting to edge towards being a little bit bullshit.
- The pathways. What does this tell Dunedin and Southland club cricketers. The U19s. Or people giving up their time to play for Otago 'A', presumably with ambitions to step up.

M Renwick listed for Otago... don't tell me there are two M Renwicks in Otago like they have to K Clarkes in ND

Nah that scorecard has Renwick, Rippon, Lockrose, Muller and McKay as trying to play in two games simultaneously. Have to wait and see the corrections to it shortly.

Llew Johnson is also a keeper BTW

There might be a clue at the bottom of the ODT Lockrose story.
"Otago was forced to make a late change to the 12 it named earlier in the week.

Central Districts back-up wicketkeeper Ma’ara Ave has been included in the squad as a loan player and Covid replacement.

He replaces Thorn Parkes in the 12. Otago was already going to be without the services of regular gloveman Max Chu and seamer Angus McKenzie, who are isolating due to Covid-10 protocols."
So perhaps sequence was
- Chu and Mckenzie unavailable
- squad of 12 announced, incluing Parkes, so assume Renwick keeping
- Ave replaces Parkes - "forced", but nothing said about whether Parkes was "forced" out, or Ave was "forced" in. Not sure if the ODT writer is hinting at NZC overriding Otago Cricket by using "forced" in the story, or if I am reading too much into one word.

Really stepping up their diversity, equity and inclusion measures if Ma'ara Ave has become a player whose opportunities must be maximised. Quite a clever and educated youngster though so would feasibly be a special project for NZC in that regard.

A pity OIlie White (the most capped player in NZ U19 history) probably doesn't do any keeping.

I know that Chu was unavailable for covid reasons. That isn't the subject

It's the 5 or 6 local replacement permuations that were ignored that is the mystery.

I don't think NZC forced anything. But they are compliant in their sloppiness and laziness.

There was an entire Dunedin club game that was cancelled as a club couldn't field a team. As per ODT. SO there is obviously a covid wave in the Dunedin youth.

I was hoping for some details on the ignored replacements. Maybe Culhane is back at school and unavailable. Maybe someone like Tasman-Jones can play 'A' cricket in January when he has time off work but can't play in March. Maybe a youth like BWG or Cam Jackson has been given the lurgie by the young Dunedin unwashed. etc etc

Or maybe. Ex CD man Dion Ebrahim just phoned the first uncontracted keeper he could think of, coz, job done, no one will care if he is from back in my old 'hood rather than local. And NZC didn't give a ****. But I care, as it comprises the authenticity of the comp.

Both Tasman-Jones and Wheeler-Greenall batting already for Otago 'A'. So, doubt their availability was an issue.

Rest of the scorecard still an un-updated incorrect mess, though. Maybe the regular score is isolating ....

CD 4 down.. that LBW looked dodgy. It hit outside the off but the umpire triggered Schmulian

Schmulian's lbw looked to me like it was smacking into off.

Doug unlucky, perhaps he can exchange condolences with Raval.
