Funny to see Neesham open the bowling in FC cricket, but he seems to be taking to it nicely.

My previous post that Shipley might surprise on the upside continues to pay dividends.

Also see Vishvaka (CW favourite in U19s a couple of seasons ago) made a century opening for Wellington A today.

Bit off topic but George Worker must be...working...his way back into ODI contention. Genuinely has a case for being the best white ball opener in the country. Outbatted Guptill this season and overall has 18 one day tons @ 44, and hasn't disgraced himself in his limited NZ appearances. I have reservations about him on decks that do a bit but on your average ODI deck he'll be as well suited to it as any modern opener.

I know we don't play JAMODIs anymore, but it would be helpful to include him for JAMODIs given we're a bit uncertain at the top and I think Guppy turns 45 this year:ph34r:.

tbf Worker will be 34 by the next ODI World Cup and Guptill 37 so not exactly backing youth either way.

Are we actually going to plan for the next WC at all? With 4.5 years between World Cups did they just decide to write off ODIs for 3 years and then do 18 months intense prep with a new-ish set of players? And will the team, which was already relatively old, actually change much - we could go into the next WC with almost a whole team of 30-somethings.

If Neesham could establish himself as a regular wicket taker in FC cricket he'd have a real chance of nosing his way back into the test side. Neesham batting at 7, along with 3 of the 4 quicks and a spinner has a much more balanced look to it than trying to make up the numbers with Colin de Vieilhomme or Mitchell.

Not a bad bet if Australia's 2007 World Cup team is any indication.

I'm not even sure what our best ODI side looks like right now.

Guptill (maybe - has looked very past his best in recent years)
-
Williamson (c)
Conway
-
-
-
Santner
Henry
Ferguson
Boult

Nicholls, Allen and Worker are opening options. Chapman, Nicholls potential middle order bats. Neesham, CdG, Mitchell allrounders and Latham and Cleaver as keepers.

We also need to build bowling depth. I'm assuming Southee has re-entered the fold and Sodhi is always picked. Who else though? Milne?

Has shipley pulled up injured? Taken off in the middle of his 14th over by the looks of the scorecard.

This O'Donnell-Guptill partnership has rocketed forward. Murdering the spinners and Hazeldine.

Kuggeleijn must be close to being dropped for an extended period by ND. Has been pretty crap this season, especially with ball. Macewell has bowled 13 out of 14 overs of Wgtn spin, and hasn't bowled well lately either. C'mon, bowl Rachin and Younghusband.

Santner just reminding me that he also plays the short ball like our current test 8 to 11.
Boggles my mind Firebirds were reluctant to use Sears and bowled Van Beek from one end non stop. Sears had bowled 4 overs at one point in time. Still can't get my head around why Nathan Smith isn't playing. Could have comfortably played over Van Beek or Gibson. Sometimes I wonder if they play to lose or win.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!

Two right hander at the crease now, no excuses.
I was looking at the number of overs Sears was used and totally forgot about Ravindra given how many less overs he bowls in a season. He's almost like not a bowler in this side. We have a test incumbent spinner and he's barely used while Bracewell hoses overs after overs from one end.

Honestly if I were NZC I would be asking for an overhaul of both Firebirds and Otago. Something doesn't sound quite right in both set ups.

What's the problem with Otago ATM?
Can't retain players consistently and can't sign up reasonable players from other regions. Now they have players that were contributing heavily retired. They wanted NZC to intervene and help them out but NZC shut their doors and said it's for them to manage it.
