Woah, small world.

Mr Thomas is still going strong, if you took history you'll probably remember him. Bit off his rocker.

We don't play Boy's High 1sts or 2nds, they play premier mens' grade cricket, usually match up pretty well with their teams a rung or two down though. How good was Hillcrest High cricket back in the day?
I know mr Thomas very well. I went to primary school with his daughter Suzie Thomas - she was nice.

Mr Thomas felt we abused his generous nature as we started to laugh at him too much. He was a good bloke.

When I played for Hillcrest 1st X1 we played in senior mens grade I think one year after a winning streak we made it into senior A one year one spot down from premier.

Our star player when I was there was Mark Bailey. He went on to get a game for NZ in 20 20s I think - A lot of our best players stopped cricket and took up surfing or we could have had a good team in my 7th form year. Instead we had to have some new comers.

Mark's Dad was a hamilton selector for a while and a heck of a player himself. He turned up to a second X1 game one day in Senior D grade and cracked a 200* and talked our other opening bat through to 150 when his previous highest score was 40.

When I was there we had a 1st X1 second XI and a 3rd XI - although we started losing players towards the end and the 3rd XI wasn't much chop.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

@Athlai

Have you ever gone down to watch Pearce Cup action?

I caught bits of a game on a field next to me - and was shocked at how high the standard is. Next best thing to FC. higher standard than what I remember Hamilton premier cricket to be (in my ancient memory)

Anyways let me know your views on it and if you have watched.

Hey guys.

You might already be aware of the petition to keep cricket on the radio. It's online, and while the site asks you to donate afterwards, if you do not wish to do so then no worries because your signature goes through anyway.

The link is below, and you will also find it in the original post.

Petition Keep Domestic Cricket on Radio Sport

Get in there lads!
I signed - I made the comment that maybe they can just cover one game at a time as last time I tuned in they were covering all three games at once (switching between them).

I've never actually stood around and watched properly but I've caught maybe 10-15 minutes last season.

I'll try watch a few of the Karori games though I live only a couple hundred metres from Karori park.

CD are going to have some serious issues with their attack this season.

It also seems like Wellington has managed to poach Craig Cachopa, he is listed in one of the Pearce cup teams. Though I read a report suggesting he might be in like to play with the Stags? Anyone know whats going on with this? Is it just a confusing of the Cachopa brothers?
Yep Craig Cachopa is playing for Wellington, the C Cachopa in CD is Carl..his older brother. Brad is still in Auckland, so they've spread the seed far and wide

Yeah I thought it was most likely just a mistaken identity in the Stuffed article as Craig is on the Wellington Firebirds site for pearce cup and his captain was talking about his chances for Wellington.

A "strong" N Z squad, with JB in attendance, managed to finish 12th and last in HK yesterday.Guess Sixes are regarded as hit and giggle in NZ as their squads in HK fail year after year in front of a live TV Audience now approaching 200 million.More than the RWC !

Hong Kong Cricket Association

No such problems for Lou Vincent in HK who turned on a batting masterclass for the All Stars side.Sixes cricket, fashioned by HK, as Sevens Rugby was,is set for take off internationally. Can N Z retain its seat on the plane.

It's considered hit and giggle by every nation. Ours is actually the strongest squad on paper by far, yet they came dead last.

And with all due respect, Sixes is not due for take-off any time soon. It is the Qantas as of this very moment.

Central Districts squad for the opener, courtesy of a bloke on another forum.

Jamie How (C), Peter Ingram, Ben Smith, Mathew Sinclair, Greg Todd, Kruger van Wyk, Carl Cachopa, Kieran Noema-Barnett, Tarun Nethula, Stevie Smidt, Adam Milne, Jo O'Connor

O'Connor is apparently a left field selection, but he is tall and bowls in swing. Smidt is from the Hawkes Bay and has a bit of speed.

I fully am not ripping off Gazza's posts.

O'Connor update: Had a good Chapple Cup apparently.

Wellington squad:

Grant Elliott (c)
Joe Austin-Smellie
Josh Brodie
Harry Boam
Leighton Burtt
James Franklin
Tipene Friday
Mark Gillespie
Scott Kugglejin
Stephen Murdoch
Michael Papps
Stewart Rhodes
Luke Woodcock

O'Brien is out for the first two matches.

It'll be interesting to see what two players they leave out there. One of Brodie/Rhodes/Boam/Murdoch and one of Burtt/Friday/Kugglejuggle I'd say.

Damn, I would've picked Nicholls up in the draft if I knew Canterbury would be playing him this early on in the season. He's scored big runs all throughout the lower levels and I wouldn't be surprised if he hit the ground running with some of the tracks he'll get playing at home.

Martin Crowe back in the game tomorrow for Cornwall 2nds.

Martin_Crowe Martin David Crowe

As Capt of Reserves I've to take match ball & scorebook, assign player umpires & scorers. Bigger crowd expected than Bulawayo #luvgrassroots

Good on him, but 'love grass roots' is laughable.
