You need to judge every case on its merits - not make meaningless comparisons. Fact is that Australia would prefer Trescothick to open, instead of Vaughan. And you know it.

Just watch the series and see. As Chappelli says: "England would be better served with Vaughan opening in place of Trescothick, but this move won't be made until it's forced on the selectors, and by then the Ashes will be decided".
Agreed.

I think Tresco and Strauss' places will be in jeopardy by the end of the series.

You were the one bringing up averages against a country as THE reason for why Trescothick should be dropped...oh, and an Aussie, who would prefer Jon Lewis to come out at two for England.

If they do, they might just as well be in for a nasty surprise - I would not be comfortable with Vaughan opening. His form is okay, but he's still riding a lot on that purple patch he had against the Aussies two years ago. He's a very good skipper, that's why his place in the team is so secure at the moment.

I think you'll find that most Australian fans would rather see good cricket than have England open the batting with bowlers...

We'll have to agree to disagree, and let time be the judge

Breaking the opening partnership for England would be madness. And it would mean Bell batting at three, which is a little high-pressure for a man with three Tests against WI and Bangladesh under his belt.

And whoever said Thorpe playing this summer is just a last hurrah, you're wrong. At some point this summer, there WILL come a time, as there always does in Ashes series, when England will lose three wickets cheaply. When they do, there is no batsman in the world they would rather see coming to the crease than Graham Thorpe.

You know, I try to read your posts, but I just can't. Perhaps people would take you more seriously if you attempted to write in a somewhat coherent fashion?

Of course I'm a fraud and a liar - my posts are also one of the reasons why some members of CW in general keep coming back. They wouldn't trust me as far as they can throw me - and as I am extremely fat, that is not very far at all. They do, however respect my knowledge of the game - limited though it is (I wouldn't meaningfully lie about that), it still probably far exceeds your own. I am also willing, eager even, to give credit where credit's due, and I'm sure that I will be heaping masses of credit on Australia before the week/fortnight/tour is out.

In a similar vein, much credit is defininitely due in your direction.

Quite the intellectual, aren't we? Your ancestors must have been transported for stealing a BOOK about sheep.

Now take the defeats by England and (chortle) especially Bangladesh on the chin. You will have plenty of opportunity to give it back - but wait for it to happen first. At the moment, you're just whining, and it doesn't become someone of your obvious class and intellect.
