***Official***Match #39- Australia vs Afghanistan - November 7th - Wankhede, Mumbai (D/N)

Aritro

International Regular
Mujeeb won't have any place to hide. If Yash Dayal needed mental attention after rinku show I. IPL, mujeeb I think will need that and more.
They had 190 runs to get 3 wickets so I'm gonna stick up for Mujeeb here

Again, consistency wasn't the criticism. It was taking low percentage shot selections and not using his abilities wisely.

I love Maxwell as a person, he seemed humble and falls off golf carts. And I am stoked for him today. But I stand by saying he was an underachiever for so long, because his approach to batting was muddled. I presume he played smart today, not reverse laps with men back for that shot, when he's very capable of hitting for six with a standard approach
That's the thing with an aggressive approach. When it comes off, the batter looks great, looks silly otherwise. Not saying there's no room for nuance here. Sometimes the batsmen can take unnecessary risks or play like morons.

I want @SteveNZ to tell us again how Maxwell is no good and should be dropped
So I looked back...the closest I got to this was saying you could rationalise dropping him for his core role (batting) but his other skill was keeping him in the side, plus the fact Australia has no depth. That was based him averaging 22 with the bat since the start of 2022 (from the Pakistan game a couple of weeks ago)

I also said the following:
He would be Don Bradman if he had a batting IQ, is a flawed genius, incredibly talented but increases the degree of difficulty in his shots way too much etc.

One of the most insane innings of all time, and I can't wait to see it. A double and a ton v Afghanistan and Netherlands, look forward to bigger things in bigger games.

Nah but it's not the aggressiveness, it's the reverse sweeps with two men posted on the point boundary stuff, when standing in his normal stance would have a higher chance of success. The wristy, almost hockey-style slaps he graduated to. I can actually live with the awful shot he played first ball v Pakistan, because at least it was 'conventional' in some senses. But moreso recently, he's played shots like I mentioned before because it all seemed too boring to hit bowlers over long on. From memory, he did it a fair bit against Netherlands with a lot of luck on his side, when he could have holed out.

this has to be the greatest innings in world cup history

bowling 40 overs of nonstop spin to maxwell is never a good idea though, unless the pitch is a raging turner

Well I put $20 on them at 12-1 but didn’t think for a second I’d win.

An innings like this from Maxwell is the type of innings someone needs to play to take India down this WC.
