***Official***Match #39- Australia vs Afghanistan - November 7th - Wankhede, Mumbai (D/N)

So I'm glad we will finish third (or second) and not fourth. Not that we will start favourites against SA, but it's the matchup you would rather have.

It's a lottery after the semis unless one of the sides is twice as good as the others(like Australia were in 2003). Don't think it really matters.

Well I put $20 on them at 12-1 but didn’t think for a second I’d win.

An innings like this from Maxwell is the type of innings someone needs to play to take India down this WC.
While catches can be dropped even by India, Indians would never give freebies like Afghanistan did. He has been cramping up since he was on 130 and you are feeding balls where he doesn't have to move his feet.
Do you think India will feed him. They will bowl Yorkers on 5th stump line not length ball on stumps.

With him cramping up you are giving them balls in his arc .. let me fetch make him move his feet. That period was worse than mujeeb dropping a sitter
I agree. Do they have a bowling coach? Maxi might have still deposited a few if they would've bowled a bit wider but at least there was a chance to get him out.

And that gives you the best chance of making the finals, because India is not choking like Afghanistan or SA. Not this year!

Wouldn't discredit Maxi's innings though. He is capable of pulling off such freakish stuff no matter what type of bowling he faces.

Wouldn't discredit Maxi's innings though coz the opposition bowled badly. He is capable of pulling off such freakish stuff no matter what type of bowling he faces.
Even he admitted that he rode his luck multiple times this innings, it wasn't a fluent/chance less innings.

All I am saying is no way he would batted cramping up so bad that he couldn't even move against a top opposition. They would've made his life a hell.
Afghan bowling a gentle throwdowns in his arc gave him confidence to carry on.

Worth remembering Maxwell was dropped on 33.
And 24. The 24 wasn't straight forward, but **** me the 33 was.

Just watched highlights, that is a bone-headed effort with the ball by Afghanistan. The guy is on one leg, can't shift his weight, and they seemed to bowl in the only place he could get any leverage to hit boundaries with, ie straight on a length. Why wouldn't you bowl a foot wide of off stump and make him move?

Shows the value of having a top class fast bowler, Afghanistan are missing that..

I think the players didn't react well to pressure. But there should've been someone from the coaching staff to point out that. It was a very straightforward thing.

It seemed to show the lack of cricketing nous. I dunno exactly the point where Maxwell's legs seized up, but at that point you forget that the stumps even exist. Set men back on the off side, bowl length a foot outside off and see how freakish he is in getting those wrists to hit boundaries...or force him to run. And get Cummins on strike.

What an innings from maxi, but surely there must have been some advice from the coaching team to afghans on how to dry up the runs when maxi was batting on one leg.
