Next game is Sri Lanka in Lucknow. From memory lucknow tends to spin a bit. At this point i'de keep inglis for atleast another game, he's a better player of spin than carey and got a good ball early this game. I'de pick green again just cause I hate stoinis in ODI's and think he shouldn't be playing for WA, not to mention AUS. We need to somehow get our act together in 4 days and not field/bat like muppets.

Not defending the ineptness but I think they were against the conditions in both the games by probably getting the decision of the toss wrong

Batting was easier second time round against India due to dew and harder today since it started jagging with very little dew. Not something they can predict either

Batting didn't look tough at all around when the 6th wicket fell. Cummins was looking very comfortable. I think if they had made it to about 130-2 around the 20 over mark, it would've been smooth sailing from that point on. Instead they were 6 down and out of it already.

Edit meant to say 25 over mark

A shame for Australia that Khawaja is injured (I'm assuming he's injured). If he's not it's madness.

You can’t say much about the toss we’ve bowled and batted poorly for 4 innings now. I don’t think it changes much had we done the opposite of the toss. Hasn’t really been one stand out performer all those innings but Maxwell did bowl well today. It’s not like the teams we faced didn’t face some troubles and then they overcame it, we couldn’t do the same.

It definitely didn’t look as tough as the India game pitch but was still tough. Once you got in it looked decent to bat on but our batters threw away their wickets early. People gave crap to bavuma for his innings at the start but he played the situation right and didn’t lose a wicket the first 15 overs and built a good platform.

Khawaja was done dirty in odis ever since 2019, he was a solid odi batter who got axed for no reason.
Although Handscomb doesn't have the best odi record, he is an excellent player of spin and should've been persisted with in odis, his ton in India was a knock to remember.

Also not sure why Ben Mcdermott was ignored , he had a good start to his odi career and his list a record is good, could also solve the wicket keeper issue.

It should start from the fact that Cummins should not be the captain
if it’s not the c*m king it should be head imho?
like smith’s a dreadful captain as i have whinged about here a heap, but head is pretty good (and travis is a decent captain as well heyooooo😏

It really was only that ten over burst with the new ball until that Marsh/Carey drop though. They looked timid and confused with the bat and today they've just been abject, aside from (once again) Maxwell and a few good bursts from the quicks. And I know this is getting to psychoanalysis but the way they reacted to taking wickets at the end did not speak to a team in a good place mentally.
Cummins needs to wear a tee shirt with a cartoon tiger on it to the coin toss next game. History tells us that sort of inspirational leadership turns everything around, leads to WC glory and puts you in the Hall of Fame.

As you and many other have said though, I think what makes this particularly frustrating is the signs have been there for ages with the LO set up, but they’ve been ignored by the selectors.

Middle order hasn’t fired for over a year and there aren’t the right type of players being selected to bolster it instead of having top order players bat there; the fact Cummins is skipper means your third or fourth best quick in the set up plays every game even when conditions and team balance should dictate he doesn’t, and the side is pretty old over all
And it’s showing - they look tired and their fielding isn’t up to the standard we rightfully expect.

About the best outcome from here is an early exit and a complete reset of the LO team with different emphasis and a large clean out of players

It feels very old school, almost pick the Test team then tweak it. I’m not saying that’s what they’ve done but it has that air about it.

Semis still achievable but can probably only drop one more game I reckon? So would need to beat 2 of England, Pakistan and NZ
