Welcome to the Matrix.

It was meant to link to Dave's 3-39 in his only ODI against India. A match where he could have had more than 3.

I blame Neo.
well i missed that ODI but i saw the 1st test in Antigua where he played & the Indian batsmen played him pretty easy i remember watching one evening & Dhoni hit him for 6 sixes in a few overs.

He got hit by Dhoni because India were in control and looking for quick runs. That's no reflection on his quality as a spinner. Better bowlers have suffered the same or worse by lesser batsmen.

India didn't play him with confidence throughout his spell.

His recent form perhaps in comparison to Laxman..
  1. Likewise Zaheer and Kumble in county matches.
  2. Likewise Chawla, RP Singh and TP Singh for India A in Australia. Only RP Singh made the squad of these five.
  3. The Indian team doesn't need another batsman in the middle-order. There is a surplus of them.
  4. He's not even a stock bowler. In the last two matches he got, he just got (more or less) six overs, while Sehwag, a lot less fancied with the ball, got 18, and also a few wickets.
  5. He's got an average under 30 and a strike rate under 70.
In other words, he's not that special, not relevant and may be yet another backward selection that backfires.

Well Baugh has done nothing to be dropped recently, tbh. Ramdin was struggling and Baugh came in and smashed the ball around a bit. He deserves a run.

Why in the world would you want Hinds opening? Further to that, why would you ban Samuels to number 7? He's already shown he can't slog.

Preferred Lineups: 1st ODI (Australia vs West Indies)

Australia
S Katich
M Hayden
R Ponting *
M Clarke
A Symonds
M Hussey
B Haddin +
B Hogg
B Lee
N Bracken
G McGrath

While there have been rumours of Clarke opening, I doubt it's anything serious because they have four openers in the squad and plan to rotate the middle-order batsmen as well. Clarke and Symonds will probably sit out a match or two so that Martyn, Cosgrove and Watson can see some action.

West Indies
C Gayle
R Morton
R Sarwan
B Lara *
S Chanderpaul
M Samuels
D Bravo
C Baugh
I Bradshaw
J Taylor
F Edwards

Samuels isn't a very good slogger, but he didn't do too well as an opener against India either. Morton has opened in the past and been fairly successful at the top of the order, so they might as well give him the spot and possibly promote/demote Samuels according to the situation at hand.

He cant?, well his destructive 100 vs India 4 years shows that he can.

The same could be said about Bravo as well, i remember him sayin in an interview in on of the ODI's vs India & he said he preferred batting in the top 6.

With Hinds i dunno i guess they recalled him because Morton didn't do that well vs India in the ODI's, but maybe Morton may open again.

One innings is what you judge by? As opposed to the countless failures to look even remotely effective down there this year? I don't understand why people are advocating wasting the talent of such a classy batsman by turning him into a poor man's Ricardo Powell.

Bravo may prefer the top 6 but that doesn't mean there's room for him there. He's the allrounder. Samuels is the batsman who bowls.

So would you have Samuels opening with Gayle then? Who comes in down the order with Bravo then: Runako Morton, Wavell Hinds or Dwayne Smith?

Or Bravo opening, Samuels at 6 and Smith at 7.
