would johnson be the first aussie test debutant with a facial piercing, not counting earrings?

you sort of think chappelli or border would have yanked it out on sight

Martyn's ODI career is just about over I think, and rightly so. I think he should stay in the test side, but there's simply better options in ODIs.
It would be in Australia's and Martyn's and Hayden's best interests, if their ODI careers were terminated after this tour. I don't think Martyn has added much value to the ODI team of late, and Hayden was a dog's breakfast in his last year of ODIs. In my view, their Test form could only be enhanced (and Hayden's already has) by being cut adrift from ODIs.

482 @ 32.13 from 16 matches. Not great, but nothing dire.

Hayden obviously wants to play in the World Cup, and I've got no problem with him doing so as long as he proves himself worthy of the spot ahead of Katich, for the simple reason that he could still be one of the better opening options we've got in ODIs. Martyn's simply not the best choice for number 4 in ODIs any more though, and hasn't done anything in the shorter form since the Ashes tour.

Whats the point in calling Johnson back after just 2 matches??? after such an impressive performance he should be made to play all matches, especially when Australia intent to do experiment in this tour.Aus selectors should change their decision, it would be better if they recall Lee or other fast bowler and let Johnson play some more international matches.

I'd like to see Clarke and Haddin both partner Gilcrhist as openers at some stage this summer.

Clarke's better off in the middle order, IMO. He, Symonds and Hussey are what make the Aussie batting line up what it is, as it means early wickets can be lost, but they can still post a competitive, 280+ total.

Agreed. Clarke is probably quite capable of opening in ODIs, but he's such a good player down the order that I wouldn't want him to spend all his time up there. Clarke and Hussey at 6 and 7 is not only an incredible safety net, but they are as good as any players in the world at bringing up the run rate in the late overs.

He does that without playing a shot with Katich's current style opening. Personally it wouldn't surprise me to see Hayden opening in the WC next year. He also is a vastly superior fielder to Katich.

agreed. If watson is going to play i think he should open, he simply isn't good enough at working the ball around to come in in the later overs for mine.

Haddin is a very good batsman and if Hayden doesn't find form at the top i would certainly hope he would be considered as an option for the top of the order with Gilchrist. I think Cosgrove is also an option at the top of the order.

Hussey has been named as captain for the next game with Lee and Symonds expected to come back into the side.

How do you think Watson would fare against top-class pace attacks such as Pakistan's (Akhtar-Asif-Rana) if he has to see off the new ball? I haven't seen enough to be convinced. Hopefully Hayden can score big runs in the next match (but not the one after that, India needs to win ;)) and secure the spot over Katich, who will be in danger if he doesn't excel in India.

Hayden/Katich, Gilchrist, Ponting, Watson, Symonds, Clarke, Hussey, Hogg, Lee, Johnson, McGrath ... love that lineup

I think he'd be fine to be honest, as long as he didn't get frustrated and try to hit out. His technique against the quicks is very, very good IMO.. he just loses concentration occassionally.

Kinda random but, whatever happened to Murali Kartik? I thought he used to be a big part of India's one-day plans. Don't see that hes done anything wrong and I think he would be a better spin option than Powar.

Bloody Thommo being naive about why Hayden was dropped.

A one day opener has to be able to do 2 things, play shots and rotate the strike, Hayden can't do both at once, and Katich seems unable to do either. Staying power is for the middle order.

Oh well, 2 world cups in a row is enough, I suppose it's only fair another team wins next year.

Gee, great performance by Hayden so far. 16 off 36, and terrible running gets Katich out. I wonder if people will get off Katich's back now?
