Well if someone used the word "shotgun batsman" then yes it is a bit OTT. Though I would not be surprised if Brett Lee tons up in a test match, something Symonds will never achieve.
If Jason Gillespie can score a double century then anything can/could happen...

I think they would make the finals ahead of India. And may even win it. If the wickets happen to be a slightly slow, Samuels/Gayle will make life very difficult for the usually free stroking Indian and Aussie batsman, AFAIC. Their 20 overs for 80-100 runs and 2-3 wickets could be a telling difference.

First time Bracken won`t have use of the new-cherry for a while. Hopefully he`ll still be effective as a change bowler. :)

I got tickets to the matches on the 16th and 18th - Australia vs. India and Australia vs. West Indies. Should be good. I'll get to see Clown himself smash a couple centuries and take maybe 10 or 12 wickets.

Now Gilchrist is missing this series. The Indians shouldn't miss out here, and will be playing a (more or less) full-strength side, although this is the series where Munaf Patel should play a major part. This may be his only chance, since Agarkar is (hopefully not) likely to be a frontline bowler in the Champions Trophy. The Indians can use a five-man attack, with Ramesh Powar being the fifth bowler. The Harbhajan-Powar combine is quite effective and may be more than a handful out here.

gilchrist missing the series is disappointing but an oppurtunity for Haddin
Yea hopefully Haddin makes some good runs since his keeping has always been impressive. It will be interesting to see whether he opens or bats down the other.

It would make sense to bat him down the order as they've already picked three batsmen capable of opening in Hayden, Katich and Jaques.

Thank you, sir. I've found myself a bit busy lately (partially because I got smashed by a truck and had open-heart surgery and was actually dead at one point), but now I should be able to post some.

I don't see Australia losing this series. For one, Cricket Australia is supposedly in charge of pitch preparation, so it's basically a home series. Also, Pidgeon is back and the team is at full strength minus Gilly. West Indies aren't much of a threat, and India never settle because Coach Greg feels it necessary to change their line-up every innings. Assuming it comes to an Australia vs. India final, remember WC 2003.

And to those of you who say Clown will never play another test match for Australia - you may be right, but only if the selectors make the biggest mistake of their careers. Clown had a bad time in his trial run, true. But given a pitiful enough opponent to beat up on, he should gain enough confidence to last him a lifetime. That is why he should be given a spot in the Ashes squad.

Things have changed since the WC in 2003. India are a much better unit and IMO a lot more focused. We should give the aussies a much better challenge and can win. As for the west indies, they are a lot better than most people think...they have a great chance of beating australia... and as u are going back into the past...remember aussies v bangladesh?? If bangladesh can beat the aussies, so can india and the west indies.

Yeah yeah, and Bangladesh bowled India out for just over 200 to win a year earlier. The Aussie defeat was due entirely to the fact that Australia assumed it would be much simpler to bowl Bangladesh out, not accounting for Ashraful's miracle innings. Australia also forgot that they didn't have their main strike bowler and probably the best in the world, Brett Lee, in the attack. There will be no underestimation against two quality international sides, India and West Indies, and there will be a full compliment of bowlers and batsmen (minus Gilly) this time.

Yes, West Indies have a chance, but I still rate India much better, and Australia much better still. Perhaps Australia will be given a run for their money, but their money will stay in their pockets.
