oops! yeah, ur right. no vaas then. Um.....who will it be. aussie i don't think it will be Malinga. he's too wayward when bowling in ODs + no balls. I guess it's Dilhara then.

I agree. Malinga is too wayward in ODIs . But knowing the Dambulla wicket, he may not be a bad choice . But should they pick him over Dilhara , consideration should be given to bowling his overs out rather leaving him to bowl the slog overs.

By the way what do you think of this new bowler playing for the A team -

Jayaprakashdaran - who seemed to have bowled well taking 3/35.

He would be a commentator's nightmare :D with the longest name in cricket as far as I can see. 16 letters in his surname !!

It will be fun to see the commentator's trying to say his name when ever he comes onto International Cricket !!

I dont understand why the sri lankan cricket board decided not to use the new ODI rules in this series. Australia and England have already played under them. Supersubs and powerplays are gonna be a part of the game from now on so we should be trying to get a head start and get accustomed to them. So what's the logic behind this decision?

too many variables still unkown to manipulate matches like in the normal old rule one dayers. Why else will they not want to adopt a new substitue rule which would create so much added interest in the tournament!

They'd just call him "Jaya" wouldn't they?
They probably would , although those a little more adventurous may call him "Shan" ! :D

And score boards may resort to J. Shan

Whatever it takes!!!
I think Dhoni should be kept at 7, they should not yield to temptation and have him opening. In the slow conditions in SL, it is more important to have good hitters for the slog than at the start. 260-270 can be very defendable in those conditions.

A query for the SL fans here- what do you know about those two new picks in the ODI side? And would you have Vandort in the team as an opener? Fans on other boards say that he would be a very good pick, and he's a lot better than the likes of Mubarak and Kandamby, specialist batsmen with averages less than 30.

I think it is risky. I would prefer having Yadav as the fifth bowler and the sixth batsman... And I think Kumble (and Bhajji for that matter) are both well read by the Lankans... I think two spinners would be too risky.
Kumble's average is a worry, but then, he's done rather well in Tests, so if they use him the way they do in Tests, with more than a few fielders in catching positions round the bat, he can get more wickets. He will go for more runs, but he'll also get that extra wicket. Bhajji has a good average against the Lankans in Lanka, but neither can do much on their own. They're a lot better when in combination, and can do better than their medium-pace counterparts.

never seen Jayaprakashdaran bowl. I have no idea where the selectors got him from. we'll have to wait and see how he goes.

yeah,Vandort is much better than Mubarak and Kandamby. he'll take over after sanath retiers I think.

How about having a non-batsman open the innings, just to hit more than a few big shots? Even if he contributes just 25 runs, if it's at more than a run a ball and an openign partnership of 50, it will be enough to shield Laxman, Dhoni, Dravid and the newcomers. The best bet so far is Irfan, though Zaheer can't be far behind. Irfan seems to have recovered bowling form so far- what do you think of his tour match performances? Hopefully the pitchs in this series are not as bad. It's about time the people in charge stop treating Zaheer as an also-ran and play him as a frontliner.

One name I can remember is Dilhara Lokuhettige, picked as an all-rounder. His batting average is less than Wijekoon's, but may bowl faster. How is this combination of Malinga/DilharaF/DilharaL/Chandana/Muralitharan?

What about a proper opener? Far more likely to get some runs.

Also, you want your best batsmen to play as many of the limited overs you get to face in a one day game.
