I don't really have an opinion about whether they were right in not selecting him- lots of competition. Very good in FC, but not necessarily a record that forces selection. It's more that I love his action, although I do think he would probably have been at least pretty good.

Abbott did get his chances though- just opted to go Kolpack instead when CSA wouldn't give him a ridiculously long contract IIRC

De Lange had the issue of injuries and proving himself not great in FC.

SA's side will be intersting at Newlands now that Bavuma is out. Hamza has been called up, reckon if they replace TB with a batter he'll get in before Stubbs, even though Stubbs is in the squad.

Reckon Maharaj will also get in and they might drop Coetzee.

So Test XI is probably:

Maharaj

Burger

Ngidi is fit now I think but he'll only play if they decide to go with five bats.

Another possibility is that Mulder comes in for Bavuma. He wouldn't be in the squad if it's something they hadn't at least been considering.

I honestly would like to see Rohit skip the test, and also not play Shreyas unless he can be 100% on the field. We have enough fielders to hide as it is without needing one of the younger ones being that. Here is my sunday morning before the coffee 11 I would like go with -

Tilak
Rahul (wk) (c)
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bumrah
Avesh
Siraj


But in reality, while we may get that bowling attack, I dont think the top 6 is gonna change. :( I hope we somehow win like we did in 2010 and draw the series though I honestly cant see how. Cant even bank on that fighting spirit the team showed in 2020-21.
