*Official* India Tour of Australia 2018/19

Hobbs in 1911/12 and Hammond in 1928/29 is the full list. Quite a few have come close but it's ultimately more of a rarity that a touring side wins 3 games in Australia than a batsman hits 3 great tons.

Honourable mention: Hobbs and Sutcliffe both hit 3 tons in 3 different matches in the 1924-25 series but England still somehow got beat 4-1

I suppose playing in Australia with only 3 men performing (Maurice Tate being the 3rd) was never going to be easy. A forerunner of the 1950 tour when Hutton and Bedser tried to take on their hosts with no discernible support from the rest of the side. iirc the 1924/25 tour was when we were captained by a paid up member of the British Fascists, so maybe it's a good thing we were soundly trounced.

Pujara having the mother of all series? If India win here how high is his performance going to be rated considering that history is going to be made though admittedly it coincides with them having a good attack as well. Man is the nicest guy as well. Happy for him.

Pujara has been Smith-like this series. He's never even looked like getting out. He's easily the man of the series regardless of what happens here.

The biggest thing that has annoyed me about this series is that Australia's bowlers have bowled very well for little reward. Adelaide and Perth in particular, but also Melbourne has seen them bowl very tight lines and lengths for the most part.

When things eventually went their way it was in the second innings of a test already lost. There have been no opposition collapses early in the first innings. It's testament to how well India's have batted here, particularly Pujara, but boy has it been difficult to watch.

Today they were a tad more loose at times but credit to India again, any time the ball was pitched on a length or full the Indian batsmen sent it to the fence. They also battered the part time spinner out of the attack and forced Australia to ask more of their bowlers.

The pitch was pacier than Melbourne and runs were easier to get, with the ball coming onto the bat more.

The short pitch stuff was Australia's only real option today since Pujara and Agarwal punished anything fuller.

Australia should bowl our bowlers as much as we need. No use leaving them with any gas in the tank - we'll have the bowling to take on Sri Lanka even if all the quicks were unavailable.

I really hope Australia can do to India's tomorrow what South Africa did to us two years ago - turn 300 for not many into 350 all out, then go on to set a total of 500 and roll India in the third innings. The likelihood of this is very low but Khawaja is due for some runs.

Hang on, what's happening here? I thought it was only the Australian batting that was depleted by the bans and that the bowling available to them is still first choice? Why is the "best bowling lineup in the world" struggling so much, and that too at home? No reverse swing either, and they had plenty of it just last year in the Ashes. Starc was getting reverse as late as the Durban test earlier this year, why has it deserted him all of a sudden? Very strange indeed considering that only the banned trio were involved in the sandpaper incident and absolutely no one else in the team, 'oh no' and that it was also a one off and only the first time the Australians even considered it. The Aussies have according to their own accounts gotten reverse swing plenty of times, so why are they not getting any now? Especially with their top of the line pace attack? A completely baffling mystery, indeed.

Oh well, they've pretty much gifted India their first series win in Australia, so they'v picked a fine time to lose that reverse. Hopefully they can withstand the might of Lanka better in a month or so.

a lot of folks are acting like india already has the series and this test as well in the bag...4 more days to go, india doesn't have much (reliable) batting to come after this pair...plenty could happen early on day two to completely change the complexion of this game...

I watched an Andy Zaltsman stand up show. He pointed out that David Cameron whistled to himself after his resignation post-Brexit and Steve Smith cried after ball-tampering gate while being comforted by his father. Strange perspectives.

What I get from this is even David Cameron’s family hates him.

Watching him one day during the Melbourne test he seemed quite happy to wind up the crowd and get the reponse.

He was clapping along with the "Kohli is a wa**&*^" chant.



It is the saturation coverage that the TV gives him that annoys people.
