Said it a million times during the IPL, Badri's not a guy who can come in and hammer bowling straight away. Swap positions with Yuvraj please.

Yeah, I thought this would have been a good opportunity to test Badrinath out at #3. Shame the selectors didn't opt for that though.

India needed atleast one of their set bats to bat thru the innings. Ball is turning sharply which is good news for Bhajji and Yuvi. Anyway, interesting match on hands, and it's up to India's new ball bowlers not to screw it up.

Once again, the Indians' weaknesses in the final ten overs show up. With as much as 210 in 40 overs, they had a platform to launch to a 300. Now they're struggling to hit the big ones here, with some of the final overs going for two or three. The seven-batsman strategy has failed here again, exactly when the top five have come together nicely.

How often do we see the Indians waste a strong platform behind them in the final overs? Once again.

An attempt to accelerate between the wickets has resulted in Harbhajan run-out by a relay throw at the bowler's end.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, going by SL's batting form this total is about 100 more than you need.

Wheels are coming off the Indian innings big time atm, when Dhoni and Raina were batting India were in such a commanding position but they have messsed things up, anyways they already have a decent score on the board but still they could have had much better total on the board.

The Indians have a very weak bowling attack, with a part-time combination that can do nothing. They need to put enough pressure on the Lankans with a heavy total to have a chance.

Luckily, the Lankans are a weak batting side, and have just six frontline batsmen. Even then, we saw Mahela stitch chunky partnerships with Kulasekara, then Thushara, when the part-timers operated. Besides, this pitch looks a lot better than last time.

Horrible death batting from India. Set the stage so well for a great score and just fell off the rails.
Look at these figures:
  • India at 224-3 at the start of the final overs.
  • Rohit Sharma at six scoring 18 of 23, with no sixes and fours.
  • Badrinath scoring 6 of 11 at seven.
  • Harbhajan bats ahead of Praveen Kumar
  • Both Harbhajan and Kumar, capable strikers, were instead blocking and trying to offer strike to Rohit Sharma
The top five came together well for the first 40 overs. The final overs demand some rapid scoring, with some huge hits. We didn't see that happen, and the batsmen at six and seven didn't look the part. Instead of banking on the seventh batsman, they need to get more runs from the lower order, like the Lankans.

Seeing a few clips of Raina in action, he moves his feet well and gets behind the ball nicely. Not one who habitually sweeps the spinners or edge outside off, he looked in full control. He played both spinners intelligently, and ran hard between wickets. The commentators say he threw away a hundred, but then, he needed to get a move on, so it wasn't such a bad thing in the final overs.

Kohli, though, has often played with an angled bat. He's looked quite streaky initially, but got settled nicely. Dhoni, though, may have issues with fitness. It's not for the first time he got tired while batting out there. With very few hits to the fence, he's set aside his striking for developing huge partnerships. It has left the team a striker short, but he's doing this very well.

India manages 258 which is a decent total but could have been better as we all know. the important thing is that SL is playing to stay in the series so the pressure would be more on them

the batting in the death overs would have been a lot better if not for the two SL spinners, who again bowled well. though, more than good bowling, i think it's the shot selection that let the batsmen down. some of the wkts fell in trying to play against the spin so thats something the Indians have to work on

Dhoni and Raina once again did their job, along with Kohli, who hit his maiden 50 .... Badri should have batted at 3

not surprising, the waste of space as far as the batting goes was Yuvi. with the likes of Sehwag and Tendulkar slated to come back, he should be worried about his place. He doesn't want to go Afridi way i.e. fire once in a while .... May be playing Pathan in Yuvi's place would have been a better option. let's hope Yuvi delivers with the ball

the positive is that 258 is on the board, SL is playing to stay in the series so whats needed is a disciplined bowling and fielding effort. a couple of good balls and the pressure would be on SL .... this a nice opportunity for Ind to clinch the series, will they do it in this game?

That might very well cost India the game, a lot depends whether the Indian seamers are able to move the ball around like the other evening, but if thay can't do it then the lack of the 5th bowler might just come to haunt India, because them playing the extra batsman didn't do them much good today.
