Bias or no bias, you must know...there have been players who have been in better form than Ganguly. If one 100 is enough to get you into the team, then about 10 other players should be in the squad too.
well not all of them 10 players have the experience that ganguly have and not all of them proved themselves as ganguly did for all these years....he was out of form and now hes back in form so he should be back in the team..but chapell probably has a grudge on him so ...

Dravid, he has a point. Ganguly only has to do half of what Gambhir does to be in contention for a recall, simply because of his experience, record and proven class at the highest level. Still, Ganguly hasn't done enough yet. That said, if Dravid and Yuvraj happen to both miss the test series, Ganguly and Badrinath are the best replacements IMO. Of course, Ganguly has to score runs against Mumbai in Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy.

I believe gangs was better choice then lax. Simply because he has batted at number 3 position before and is no new to it.He would be a shade better fielder then laxman. Also with his immense experience as captain he would be of great help to sehwag. He can also ball, that too medium pace which is more favourable on south african pitches.Laxman has played only 85 matches in his entire career of 10 years as an international cricketer. He averages just above 30 compare to gangs which is ithink 8 or 9 more then lax's.
The two reasons that go against him are :
1. He is a bit uncomfortable with rising deliveries but then if you think about the last SA series he performed brilliantly. He hit anumber of sixes to pollock i remember over the covers.
2. His relationship with greg chappel. Sadly all other parameters execpt the last were ignored while making a decision.

It's not like Gambhir hasn't played ODI matches before. Gambhir, who has been in better form, has played 16 matches for India with a century and a half century under his name. So he isn't a stranger to ODI Cricket anymore.

Has laxman been in good form lately? I heard about how Ganguly played well....and tobe honest i wanted to see bothe ganguly and laxman back in the squad! Why can't Raina get injured????????

There is also thought about team chemistry. Bringing Ganguly back - regardless of his form - would be a massive step backwards.

Plus, Ganguly and bouncy wickets do not mix well.

Going backwards may be the only step left. Its not like india are going any forward!

True, but if I am going to be insane when picking new players, I'd rather go young and insane, than old and insane.

Ganguly's career is done. In his prime, he was a top ten all time ODI batsman, and a fantastic captain for India.

But its over.

We're already getting owned in SA, the last thing we need is a division in the dressing room. With Chappell/Dravid/Kumble vs. Ganguly/Yuvraj/Harbhajan.

Seriously before you say Sachin has been out of form for a while, go search his figures.
I did, and think it works out that in matches against the proper test sides since late 2002, he averages about 40 or so (IIRC)

So how long is a while then?

Those last 11 inning where he avgs 20 with a high score of 34 would bring down his avg over the past few years.

Bringing old or new batsmen is not gonna help much, when only 1 bowler bowls well in any given game for IND. Both batting and bowling sucks for IND, but fixing bowling is harder then batting since there is no real talent to rely on.

OK, ignore them, and it's 45.07 - good, but not top class in this day and age.
Fair enough, but it doesn't really mean he's been out of form for a "while" either.

Calm down people. He can be a useful contributor, but to wish he can go back to his 1998 halcyon days is most likely just a pipe dream.

And this is coming from a guy who virtually worships SRT, and rates him in the best batsman since Bradman.

TBH, I want him to retire from ODI's, maybe it will help him in Tests.
