I'd be quite interested to know two things: 1. Have Ganguly and Chappell made up? and 2. The selectors pick the touring squad but who picks the XI for the matches? If the answe to 1 is "no" and 2 is "Chappell" Sourav could be in for a nice holiday. And he averages 32 in SA with his two 50s being in one match. But isn't it funny how some players seem to become better out of the team...

I think they should make it mandatory for each player before playing international cricket, to prove himself in English county cricket. It's not like our domestic cricket is shaping us very well.
I'm just amazed someone rates county cricket as a breeding ground for international players! Mind you it got me thinking...of the current Indian squad only Tendulkar (a long time ago) Kumble (ditto) Dravid and Zaheer Khan IMO would count as a succsess in county cricket. Just as many have strugled -Kaif, Harbajan and (especially) Ganguly so maybe that's why counties go for Aussies. And remember CC goes back to one overseas player per team in 2008 which limits opportunities.

I rate county cricket as a very important school for cricketers. The lack of West Indians in CC is at least partially responsible for their decline. Ans the opposite is true for the Aussies now.

So many players talk of the advantage of CC as a finishing school for their skills.

BTW, I doubt you will find many that would call Tendulkars season in CC a success.

Yea, even he didn't think he did well.

By all accounts, the Indian dressing room is not the happiest of places at the moment; there are factions, there are a few disgruntled players who are not shy of airing their disenchantment. Part of it is due to the defeats and personal insecurities, and part of it is because they do not subscribe to the vision that the coach and captain share. It is a problem that must be addressed.
Ganguly is just the man to alleviate the situation.

Yea, county cricket really is awesome. People bemoan the fact that there are too many teams and thus the quality suffers, but IMO English and Aussie domestic systems still produce by far the most complete cricketers by the time they come to the test sides, while WI and the Subcontinent are some of the worst at this.

For every 16 year old Tendulkar who pulls is off, there are five Suresh Raina's who fail and who knows if this will permanently affect his confidence and ability to get back into the side. Even a cynical bastard like me can see that the kid has talent, but you're just ruining it by throwing him into the water against the Flintoffs and McGraths without havigng the proper experience for him to fall back on when things get rough.

IMO there should be a requirement that to be eligible for the Test or ODI sides, you need to complete three full seasons of Ranji Trophy. Not are you personally not ready, but you are taking away a space that could have gone to a proven cricketer (like Badrinath or even a Gagandeep). Our fixation with 19 and 20 year olds is quite disturbing. I'd have a 30 year old Hussey any day of the week, compared to a 19 year old whoever.
