When India becomes the number one team in the world and it is their turn to dominate world cricket ( I know most of you will start jumpign saying they won't and all that but I am saying IF they ever)... I will be so keen on relishing that moment, I will not only have extreme ego but also huge bragging rights... because us Indian fans have suffered the most for their team to get to that stage! Every Aussie and Pakistani I see, I will not leave my chance to brag about how good we are!

But I don't think that time will come, atleast not till a good 70-80 years!

My hope is that in 10 years, they will be a consistant team. They will win most series home as they do now, but will be competitive in other areas as well, drawing series or losing by small margins. I hope that our domestic structure produces batsmen that are capable of playing rising deliveries and the moving ball.

I hope our bowlers are decent enough to take twenty wickets overseas from time to time, even if they will likely not be world beaters. I am not asking for McGrath's, just decent fast bowlers who can have a bowling average around 28 or 29 overseas.

I also hope that India finally becomes a team instead of a bunch of individuals focused on individual things and personal gain.

If we have that, I will be extremely happy and impressed with where we are.

Well Nishant, I guess we can expect something that early if .........

1) Produce a good set of FAST bowlers
2) Produce another Sachin
3) Produce another Dravid

The spinners will come, we don't have to worry about that... Chawla to be better than Warne... You heard it first here!

 Making lots of predictions today, might possibly win the all-time Tony Greig award.

Calm down! Im just saying that Agarkar deserved another chance of being ur Avatar!

BUT....glad he's out of the indian squad! But, why VRV Singh? He's crap!
VRV Singh is the only Indian bowler that gets natural bounce and decent pace to go along with it. Bit like Harmison actually but he's not as good (at best) or as bad (at worst).
As for Agarkar, he's just not good enough take wickets anymore. The batsmen have to gift wickets to him. That's why he's rubbish in tests.

0% chance of that. We just dont have the domestic structure.
A lot can happen in 10 years.

I remember the McLaurin years when the target was to win the Ashes back and be number 1 side by 2007 - we all laughed at the time.

Only need to win 3 of the last 4 to be ranked number 1 ;)

Yea, but what was wrong with England was that they were just going through a bit of a lean period in terms of talent IMO. The problem with India goes much deeper than that.

For sure, supporters such as Turbinator don't help either.

Wait and watch!

To be honest, I know most of the stuff I say about the Indian team is purely due to patriotism and love for the team and is not all the time logical... Even if India becomes the worst team in the world, I'll criticize them, but also at the same time live on false hopes! Mainly because I really truly am a big fan and am very patriotic... and expect big things from them eventhough I know they are not capable of achieving them due to these "deep problems".

EDIT: I will continue to live by them thru thick and thin... Even when they lose a thousand times, will not stop believing in them! And when they do become a dominant side in world cricket, you'll see...

Good to see, was only kidding. Wonder what Bedi would say of this current lot, wanted to throw a far more talented team into the sea in the 90's. Sehwag back to the academy was his last thought I believe, and the gym one would hazard.

Lay off Turbinator. He's just rooting for his team, nothing wrong with that. Fan's optimism is the least of the team's problems. Its BCCI and how they prepare cricketers to succeed at the international levels, the coaching at the lower levels and even in Ranji Trophy is often dire, and the stars never play domestic cricket so the other players never get to test themselves against the best. Those are some of the problems.

BCCI needs to bring foreign players in, or make the stars play more domestic cricket. In addition, market the domestic games more aggressively and make the pitches more variable so the batsmen can learn on all pitches. Invest in coaching at the junior levels, and especially at the Ranji levels.

Every ranji trophy should, at the minimum, a staff of 2-3 coaches (head coach, batting/bowling coach, fielding coach), and a physio. Make sure guys get coached up from the bottom up, so when they make it to the national stage, they aren't overawed. BCCI has the money to do this, and its not extravagant. I mean cricketers showing up fat and out of shape is simply unacceptable. It borders on the ludicrous IMO. Now, once they are in the team, and they are like Warne, maybe you can selectively turn a blind eye...but they should never be picked if they have a fat ass or are lards in the field. Its also unacceptable for players to come into the national side and the first delivery they face happens to be on a type of pitch they've never even imagined before.

And it is also stupid to have 17 year old kids debuting for a test side without having the proper FC experience to prepare them for all conditions and situations. Thats how you ruin careers before they even begin. Being 25-30 years old is not too old to debut for a test side. Experience is a plus, not a minus. Its one thing to invest in youth, its another to ignore great performances just because they are 25 years old. Its the dumbest mindset I've ever heard (if Hussey was playing in India, he wouldn't be selected).

Its about putting the money back into the system, rather than increasing the national team salaries or forming 22 committees (yea they form committees for fun) for every random thing.

The entire setup needs an overhaul, or at the very minimum, very radical change for India to ever seriously challenge the world for a #1 spot.
