You know, a fusion of Virender Sehwag and Akash Chopra might just be the perfect batsman.
:p
or might be the most confused batsman, who wouldn't know whether to attack or defend...:)

In fact, all of them should be forced to play in England. Especially Jaffer, Gambhir, Sehwag and Ganguly. We're touring England a few months after the World Cup.

Look in the record books in a few years and it might be Sachin offering to tie Ricky's shoes
LOL!

I seriously doubt that.

Punter is a great bat - no question.

But he was and is a level below Tendulkar and Lara - and he may always be.

Ganguly shouldn't be allowed to play against anyone who knows how to bowl the short ball.

No test series for a while and Sehwag is horrible in ODIs so just send him back to the domestic circuit until the next test series I say.
I have no problem with that - same strategy worked with Hayden

Taught him to value his wicket again and forget about run rates

Yep.

Going back only two years people were saying Sehwag was the best opener in the world. A lot has changed since then, but he's performed against Australia so many times, he just needs time away to get things right.

Akash Chopra - The Answer. Adharcric, what are some of othe other big names in terms of defensive batsman in the defensive circuit (openers)? I can;t think of any off the of my head.

Also, do you know of any feeds and/or places I can watch Ranji trophy games from the US? Following through cricinfo gets boring.

We can't watch it in India, what makes you think you can watch it in US.

Thats what the BCCI should spend the money on :). Find a channel even if you have to pay them...get some exposure going for domestic cricket.

Seriously. Domestic cricket in India gets terrible coverage. Indian fans need to petition or something.

There is a channel that gets it in India. The problem is the channel isn't on TV for more than 90% of the people in India

As for some of the openers coming through the ranks ...

Dhawan reminded me of a young Ganguly without the short-pitched issues when I saw him playing for India A. Uthappa is explosive but he actually has a good technique for a test opener (front foot, etc). He did well against Australia A as well. Jadhav seems like a very defensive opener with a good record but the selectors have ignored him and now he's past it IMO. Chopra is the obvious choice and he has actually scored runs of late. Pujara has done well in his first season of domestic cricket and has a compact technique and good temperament, but he needs at least another year in the domestic circuit. Then you have Srivastava, who scored heavily in the Under-19 tour of Pakistan but is still a long way off.

In short, Dhawan may be the solution in the near future if Gambhir, Jaffer and Chopra don't work out. Pujara is a strong bet in a year or two as well.
Jaffer and Gambhir are fine right now IMO.
