i agree that tendulkar is right now a better top/middle order test batsman than anyone in this team barring dravid and probably laxman in his current form....my discussion with pratyush centred on whether he was past his best and could really continue on into the indefinite future, and i didn't think he could...another thing, even if the kaifs and the yuvrajs might not cut it against good attacks, india needs to look at filling up positions with youngsters who have shown promise in domestic cricket, just because 5 youngsters have failed in a position doesn't necessarily mean that the 6th one will as well...that in my opinion is a better and more long-term alternative than say, going back to ganguly, however successful his comeback might seem to be right now....and that needs to happen eventually with position no: 4 as well...

This is Sachins first series from his injury come back. He's shown good signs in ODI cricket that he can still be fairly consistent, not as much as before, but still consistent you know. His first test series coming back, he has two useful so far in two matches. His 44 in the first inning looked great and it looked like he was going to score big because he was looking really good out there. His 60 odd in this match was another great inning, with some classy shots we used to see from the old Sachin. Same with Tests, he won't be as consistent as he used to be back in his 20s, but he's showing signs that he can still be consistent enough to be in the side.
not just talking about this series, but about the past 2-3 years, i know that injuries have taken their toll on him and that's kind of what i am talking about...anyway let's see how he fares in the 3rd test....

Drop who for him again? Apart from Sehwag, I don't see anyone. In fact, once Yuvraj is back, I don't see Sehwag being in the team either.

Sehwag, Ganguly, Tendulkar, Laxman, et all. Lets see who fails and who doesn't in the 3rd test.

No they will drop the latter three, but just saying. We aren't going anywhere with our current batting lineup. It needs a major shakeup even if it means a short term decline (how much worse can it be).

Ganguly I presume.
Ganguly isn't getting dropped, as much as I would love to see him get dropped. He scores a decent amount of runs next match, he isn't getting dropped. However if he can manage a pair it might be considered

Sehwag's mental game might need work but he still averages over 50 and has youth (relative) on his side - he should be preserved for the time being as India could conceivably need to build a batting lineup around he and Dravid in the not-too-distant future.

No test series for a while and Sehwag is horrible in ODIs so just send him back to the domestic circuit until the next test series I say.

Sehwag must go. He may have a 50+ average, but he can't buy a run these days when faced with quality bowlers or quality pitches. Gambhir and Jaffer deserve a long run now.
We can consider dropping Sehwag to the middle-order, but will he fare any better than Ganguly? He plays away from his body and that won't really work.

He needs to be sent back, and the fact that he is young should not cover up his crap batting. If he can go back domestically and score big again there, maybe you can recall him.

And also he needs to learn how to leave the ball.

Is Dhawan a strokemaker? I keep saying but in at least one slot we need a Chora like opener.

Ah Akash Chopra, how I miss thee and your expansive batting.

Only one Ranji Trophy match left for Sehwag to play in. In fact, virtually the entire test side may play for their respective first-class sides in the final round (7).

I would pick Chopra over Sehwag too. Atleast Chopra won't fetch the first ball he faces that is outside off stump and get out

Send him to England.

That would be great, actually.
