Pathan did not do his chances of selection any good today and the debate weather he would be a better option than VRV was pretty much ended after he sent down 11 overs for 74 runs. South Africa would be over the moon if he got a place in the test team for Durban, hard bouncy track, Pathan bowling short at 120kph, even Smith might fancy his chances of a few runs.

Yeah Irfan's got no chance now. What a doofus.

Regarding the SA batting order, other than Gibbs, I wonder what the other change will be? I don't think Smith will also put himself down the order, surely changing both your openers in the middle of the series is too drastic?

Amla at four, Kallis at three is the most likely.

Well the good news is Munaf Patel should be good to go. So Sreesanth - Munaf - Zaheer - Kumble attack looks good. Shame really, the batting of Pathan would lend such great balance to the side, but not when he's bowling craptastic as he is right now.

Pathan only lends balance to the side when he's the fifth bowler. There's no way we'll go with 5 bowlers right now so no big deal.

We'd be able to bat down to a decent level if he found his form and became decent enough to be a part of the four man attack.

Even an in-form Pathan isn't good enough to be a part of our four-man attack right now. Zaheer and Sreesanth can both use the new ball as well as Pathan; both can take wickets with the old ball as well. Munaf >>> Pathan. An in-form Pathan is a good reserve to have, but that's about it right now. Kumble and Zaheer are both capable lower-order batsmen. Sreesanth has good technique as well. VRV and Munaf are just wild sloggers.

Munaf is still questionable for Durban. If he misses out, VRV Singh will get the nod and rightly so. Pathan is really pathetic right now.

I say drop VRV and use Ganguly and Sachin more. Think Ganguly and Sachin will be a more useful bowler, and play a stronger batting lineup

nope, you wont beat them. Smith is in terrible form and should be dropped :)
Smith is in terrible form, too bad he aint 45 like the rest of the Aussie team :)

RSA will beat India.

We are better than that rabble of a team.

Haha only three specialist bowlers in a Test match? May as well play Harbhajan if you think VRV will be just as useless as Pathan. At least South Africa are known to be poor against spin bowling (in general).

I'm pretty happy with a rabble of team that just beat South Africa by 123 runs in their own backyard. :D

That's not a bad idea either. Just don't want VRV a spot again until he proves him self again.

Whatever happened to RP Singh Jr? He looked a fairly promising prospect.
Morphed into some **** legside half-track bowler. Honestly have no idea how that happened as he started off so well in both forms.

He sure did, he looked better than VRV anyway so hopefully he can get it together and come back stronger.

If he's the best option, he should play. Quite frankly, he is the best option after Munaf. Obviously, he needs to head back to domestic cricket after this tour and get to work asap.
Joginder Sharma and Gagandeep Singh to come into contention hopefully. In fact, the remainder of the Ranji season will be very significant for both the WC and the England tour.

He got too carried away with pace and lost his rythm. He should come back though since he's an intelligent bowler. He's doing reasonably well for UP at the moment.
